"Most significant shake-up": the British army creates new divisions and brigades

33

The British command began a deep restructuring of the army. As expected, its number by 2025 will reach 100 thousand soldiers - but with one significant caveat: the number of regular troops will be significantly reduced.

It is assumed that as part of the "Soldier of the Future" program, the army will be divided into 4 infantry divisions - The Queens Division ("Royal"), The Union Division ("Commonwealth"), The Light Division ("Light") and The Guards & Parachute Division ("Guards Parachute"). As stated, their composition and functional load are balanced, that is, these divisions, at least the first three, can be considered as the same type of formation.

Separately, the Army Special Operations Brigade is created, within which an elite unit is formed - the Ranger Regiment. Apparently, the rangers are planned to be used as the main strike force during expeditionary operations.

We are significantly reducing the total number of military personnel [...] The emphasis in the reformed army will be placed on the integration of regular troops [73 thousand people], reservists [30 thousand people] and civil servants [apparently, we are talking about civilian personnel]

- said Defense Secretary Ben Wallace.

Over the next 10 years, the British army will receive 41,3 billion pounds sterling with the aim of creating a "modern, innovative and digitalized army." Part of the funds will go to the purchase of new equipment, such as Tanks Challenger 3, Long Range Precision Fires [analogue of the Russian Iskander OTRK], Boxer armored personnel carriers and unmanned aviation systems. They will equip priority formations, and the rest of the materiel will be used to equip the so-called "self-sufficient brigades".

Thus, it can be assumed that each of the four infantry divisions will have one shock and several auxiliary brigades.

The British Army is undergoing the most significant shake-up in 20 years

- indicated in this regard in the UK Defense Journal.

It is considered the most radical army transformation in over two decades.

- noted in Army Technology.

The British command is striving at all costs to achieve the strength and power of the Estonian army? A battalion of the British army is already going to successfully repel the "Russian invasion of Ukraine". Whether there will still be - there is someone to learn from ... They have completely sunk ...

Well, yes, all the local small British gopota will be recorded as gamekeepers or partisans, as in the Baltic "battle tigers")) or some other gypsy troops will be created) shovels will be cut at train stations in order to provide material support for the British army)

The Baltic countries have a small population, therefore, the creation of volunteer units is vital for them. Britain has a powerful, full-fledged army and a large number of reservists, they have no shortage of manpower. And the gypsy units, as I understand it, are your dreams? Where do they come from in Britain? Or are you projecting Russian problems onto others? Funny!

What does Britain have?) Are you now saying that 4 divisions are enough for the global task of their army as the defense of the island on which they live? Do you hear yourself?) This is the army that they collect the most vivid example of how to spend a bunch of dough to zero. The mobilization reserve does not appear out of thin air. It must be created.

"There are the following categories of individual reservists: regular forces officers in reserve, army emergency reserve and TA officers, who make up an organized army reserve officer. They are required to undergo regular retraining for six years after leaving the ground forces. The rest of the categories can do this at their discretion. ...

An organized reserve of rank and file - serving soldiers of the regular forces (men and women), who must regularly undergo retraining within six years after the end of service in the ground forces. These include those who voluntarily joined this category.

Long-term reserve - men who have completed their service in the regular reserve and are in the reserve in case of general mobilization of the country until the age of 45. They are not involved in retraining.

Military retirees are former members of the regular forces (men and women) who are retired from the Ministry of Defense. They can be drafted up to 55 years of age and also do not undergo retraining.

The number of the organized reserve is more than 31 thousand people. "

AND? Is that enough for a real defense of the island? After all, the main task of the army is to protect the state) And I personally see the creation of a reserve to help my big uncle. And that they are preparing for anything but defense. At the same time, they spend some kind of cosmic money on this.

The fact of the matter is that despite its large, formally, population, Great Britain has very big problems with the manning of the army. A year ago, they honestly laid out a sign with the staffing level of the same infantry - there was a huge shortage. People don't want to go to serve - it's hard. It is much easier to do something in the civilian world, where no one "builds" you. That is why they undertake to improve the situation with the reserves: the reservist lives at home, earns what he wants, but receives additional money for the fact that he sometimes comes to the training camp. Profitable and convenient. Calculates from the so-called American system. "organized reserve" which has shown its adequacy to the current moral and economic situation.

By the way, ours also began to use this maneuver .. BARS is an example, once a month for 3 days and once a year for 28 days .. But the problem is that they have not yet understood what to teach them .. what is sad, ideally you need to do the personnel part and in order to deploy reservists on its basis, if something happens, but the Ministry of Defense has not yet thought about it

3 years ago, in the British ground forces, 40% of battalions had a shortage of about 20%, and the army was forced to reorganize 4 battalions into "special" battalions, reducing their number by three times - in order to somehow replenish the rest.
In general, the shortage is 1820 people of ordinary and non-commissioned officers with a staff of 29 infantry battalions of 14670 people of this composition. At the same time, 12 infantry battalions out of 29 have a shortage of more than 100 people per battalion, including five battalions that have a 23% overall shortage, and one battalion (1st Battalion, The Scots Guards, the 1st Scottish Guard battalion) that has a 260 shortage a person must be deemed non-operational by British Army standards.

Special infantry battalions were started by reorganization in December 2016 from ordinary infantry battalions and are intended to carry out training and advisory tasks, including training foreign forces (in fact, to date, only two special infantry battalions have been completely reorganized to perform these tasks). The staffing of these battalions is only 180 people, and their reorganization allowed the release of several hundred people to equip the linear battalions.

Moreover, in 2019, the problem of incomplete l / s only intensified. And in 2020, the ground forces had only one battalion, manned by state.

First of all, the British completely turned their armed forces into part of the coalition forces. It is clear that 4 divisions cannot be independent players in any theater of operations.

in general, the direction is interesting, to have a fairly large, highly professional, over-equipped connection. We have a Pskov parachute, but how long are they serving there in time? Can you call the composition highly professional, at the level of trained veterans with extensive experience in military operations? Probably all the same there is also a big turnover. Having one unit in the size of 1-2 tons of people with a permanent composition (extra-long contracts), only an experienced composition with the appropriate equipment - special forces of a larger size - can be a good tool for any troubles. Of course, it is problematic to single out the elite as a separate unit against the background of the existing elite units, but given the experience gained in PMCs, it is possible to recruit professionals from there for long contracts (10 years). The benefits of such a connection can be very significant.

If the purpose of these "troubles" is to be present when Russia "invades" Ukraine. Designate your presence in the form of fifty "instructors" on the territory of some limitrophe. Sit in a "perimeter" in some Central Asian country under the protection of a younger but arrogant brother. Participate in "joint exercises" on the border with the eternal geopolitical enemy.

And the most important "advantage" of such mobile highly professional groups is that, in the case of a nimble, they can be taken out by two or three sides. Because such forces do not fight, but prepare provocations.

The British Army is experiencing the most significant shake over the last 20 years
The main thing here is not to shake it up, or even the head may fly off. But if you also call the "Pippi Pig", then the potential of the army will increase at least twice. Entrust this to your prime minister.
The Britons are planning 600 paratroopers to the Ukraine, tanks to the FRG, and who will defend Britain itself? Wouldn't it be a bad idea to check with MI6, and in France, on the coast of the English Channel, the Russians are not yet concentrating?
