"Most significant shake-up": the British army creates new divisions and brigades
The British command began a deep restructuring of the army. As expected, its number by 2025 will reach 100 thousand soldiers - but with one significant caveat: the number of regular troops will be significantly reduced.
It is assumed that as part of the "Soldier of the Future" program, the army will be divided into 4 infantry divisions - The Queens Division ("Royal"), The Union Division ("Commonwealth"), The Light Division ("Light") and The Guards & Parachute Division ("Guards Parachute"). As stated, their composition and functional load are balanced, that is, these divisions, at least the first three, can be considered as the same type of formation.
Separately, the Army Special Operations Brigade is created, within which an elite unit is formed - the Ranger Regiment. Apparently, the rangers are planned to be used as the main strike force during expeditionary operations.
- said Defense Secretary Ben Wallace.
Over the next 10 years, the British army will receive 41,3 billion pounds sterling with the aim of creating a "modern, innovative and digitalized army." Part of the funds will go to the purchase of new equipment, such as Tanks Challenger 3, Long Range Precision Fires [analogue of the Russian Iskander OTRK], Boxer armored personnel carriers and unmanned aviation systems. They will equip priority formations, and the rest of the materiel will be used to equip the so-called "self-sufficient brigades".
Thus, it can be assumed that each of the four infantry divisions will have one shock and several auxiliary brigades.
