The Azerbaijani Air Force MiG-29 fighters received Israeli air-to-air missiles. According to Telegram-channel Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Baku purchased aviation I-Derby ER rockets.
The publication does not provide details of the deal, but it is reported that the missiles have already entered service with the Azerbaijani Air Force for use by MiG-29 fighters. The number of missiles delivered was also not disclosed. It is noted that the I-Derby ER missiles are a deep modernization of the Derby family of missiles produced by the Israeli defense company Rafael.
The I-Derby ER missile is a medium-range missile capable of striking targets up to 100 km away. The mass of the rocket is 118 kg, of which 23 are in the warhead. The guidance system is combined and includes a command-inertial system in the middle section and a radar homing head on the final one. Non-contact laser fuse.
The missile carriers are F-16C / D, F-5, Mirage, JAS-39 Gripen, as well as Soviet MiG-21 and MiG-29 with the reservation "at the request of the customer." The Azerbaijani Air Force is armed with up to 10 MiG-29 fighters purchased from Belarus and Ukraine. Now Azerbaijani MiG-29 fighters will hit enemy aircraft with Israeli missiles.
By the way, in 2019, the Indian Air Force intended to abandon the Russian R-77 air-to-air missile (RVV-AE) in favor of the Israeli I-Derby ER. The purchases were planned for 2021-2022. So far, there has been no official information about this.
