Turkey introduced additional military contingent to Syria
The Turkish Ministry of Defense has deployed additional forces to Syria. As Bloomberg writes, Ankara intends to strengthen its position ahead of negotiations with Moscow and Tehran.
According to the publication, Turkey fears that the Syrian leader Assad will nevertheless fulfill his promise and attack the last hotbed of resistance in the province of Ildib, which, in turn, will lead to a new stream of refugees rushing to Turkish territory. Ankara really does not want to accept new crowds fleeing from the territory of Syria, so they will take all measures to prevent Assad's victory.
To this end, additional forces have been introduced into Syrian territory to prevent military clashes in Idlib. On the other hand, the actions of the Russian aviation in Syria and government forces are not like preparing for an offensive. But Erdogan, who is to visit Moscow for talks with Putin, decided to play it safe.
Erdogan will certainly raise the topic of aggravation of the situation in Idlib at the talks, assure Turkish officials familiar with the situation. In the meantime, the deployed military will not allow the Syrian troops to advance. It is not specified how many Turkish troops were additionally brought into Syria, but according to one of the officials there are "thousands" of them there.
It is noted that the situation in the province has remained practically unchanged since March 2020, when a ceasefire was introduced on its territory, which stopped the offensive of the Syrian army. At the same time, Bashar al-Assad intends to win complete victory in the protracted civil war. At the same time, he directly says that the Turkish troops need to leave the territory of Syria, just like the American ones. However, Erdogan's actions indicate that the Turks do not intend to leave Syria.
