New US military bases will appear in Australia, the corresponding decision was made following negotiations between the heads of the military departments and the foreign ministries of the two countries.
In Washington, talks were held between the head of the US Department of State Anthony Blinken, the chief of the Pentagon Lloyd Austin and their Australian colleagues Maris Payne and Peter Dutton. The topic of discussion was military-technical cooperation and "illegal activities" of China.
As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached on the construction of new naval and aviation US bases. The number is not named, it is noted that all of them will be located in the south of the country. Australian Defense Secretary Peter Dutton said the number of US troops on Australian soil would "significantly increase."
In addition, the United States is redeveloping two Australian Air Force bases on the east coast. Naturally, they will be prepared to receive American aircraft.
As the talks continued, the parties expressed deep concern over China's "illegal claims" to the disputed territories in the South China Sea.
We will remind that earlier the USA, Great Britain and Australia announced the creation of a new partnership AUKUS in the field of defense and security. The first decision of the new union was Australia's refusal to purchase French-made nuclear submarines for 66 billion dollars. Paris has already called this decision "a stab in the back."
