In the United States, they are concerned about the "total dependence" of their army on the supply of Chinese microcircuits and rare earth metals
The US Congress is going to pass a regulation that would introduce additional obligations for the Pentagon in the use of high-tech products. As it turns out, American lawmakers are concerned about the fact that such products often come to the United States from China.
Earlier, as an example, a case was cited when surveillance cameras were installed in the repair hangars of the US Air Force, which, according to the documents, were made in America, but in fact turned out to be with Chinese "stuffing". Then even the FBI got involved in the case, checking whether a potential adversary had leaked important data concerning aviation technologies and chains for the repair of combat aircraft.
Now the US Congress is going to oblige the Pentagon to "map" the supply of microcircuits and equipment with their use. In other words, the US military will have to provide a report on the supply of high-tech elements in order to be able to trace the chain according to the formula "from manufacturer to customer."
As reported in the American press, Congressmen are concerned about the fact that the percentage of the use of microchips produced in Chinese enterprises has increased in the US troops. American lawmakers believe that with their help, China can engage in espionage, receiving classified information, including on the military-technical aspect of the activities of the US troops.
From the report of the task force of the US House of Representatives:
The Pentagon has already been ordered to diversify the supply of microcircuits for the needs of the US Army, to identify the most "vulnerable" links in the supply chain of the necessary elements.
In addition, it is noted that the risks are associated with the significant dependence of the US military-technical complex on the supply of rare earth metals from China. It is noted that these metals are used in the creation of stealth fighters, the latest missiles, blocks and nodes of communications and electronic suppression, in the space industry.
Congress said that if it is possible to trace the supply chain, risks can be minimized.
