US Vice Admiral has proposed a new option for the use of stealth destroyers Zumwalt
Vice Admiral Roy Kitchener, commander of the US surface forces, said that in connection with the growth of China's combat power, the US Navy should improve its weapons and systematically update them. Now, according to Kitchener, on the agenda is the rearmament of a number of ships with hypersonic missiles. However, the problem is that so far these missiles have not passed the required set of tests.
The American vice admiral proposes to use the latest ships of the naval forces for such tests - first of all, we are talking about stealth destroyers of the Zumwalt class. According to Roy Kitchener, they could be turned into test platforms.
Thus, this becomes another proposal for how to use the Zamvolt destroyers in the US Navy.
Previously, they were presented as carrier warships of the railgun. Then they decided that the ships could be used as the main means of attacking the enemy's coastal infrastructure. After that, statements began to appear about the advisability of using hypersonic weapons, but again the problem arose: the missile silo cells on the Zumwalt did not match the size of the hypersonic missile weapons being developed in the United States.
Now it is proposed to rebuild the ships, which have already cost the US budget $ 4 billion each (excluding the funds for the implementation of the program itself).
Vice Admiral Kitchener:
According to the American military leader, stealth destroyers "are already showing the possibility of universal use." He recalled that some time ago on one of these destroyers ("Michael Monsour") drone training was conducted.
As a reminder, the US Navy has two Zumwalt-class stealth destroyers, and one such ship is on its way. In total, the United States intended to supply 32 such destroyers to the fleet, but the financial issue intervened. It was decided to reduce the procurement program to 4 units.
