Arms installation started on the basis of the US missile defense system Aegis in Redzikowo, Poland
The United States began deploying weapons at a new missile defense base in Redzikovo, Poland. According to the American ABM Agency, the installation began on the base weapons ground system Aegis.
According to the report, the United States has begun placing the missile launchers of the system, there are no details of the work being carried out. Earlier, in the spring of this year, the SPY-1D (V) radar and fire control system (FCS) were tested and have already been launched. Currently, the readiness of the facility is estimated at 95%, it is planned to complete the work in Redzikovo in the next year, 2022.
An agreement between Poland and the United States on the deployment of an American missile defense system in the country was signed in 2008 and entered into force in 2011. Initially, it was planned to equip the base with long-range radar-guided missiles in the Czech Republic. Then the plans were revised, and Poland received only SM-3 medium-range missiles.
According to the plans of the American military, the base of the US missile defense system in Europe, which is being built in Redzikowo, 150 km from Gdansk, was to be put into operation in 2018, then the commissioning was postponed to the end of 2020. Now the new deadline is 2022. The protracted construction is associated with a Polish contractor.
The station will include components of a radar tracking system for missiles, as well as anti-missile weapons, and will enter, along with the Aegis base in Romania and four US Navy missile defense destroyers stationed in Spain, into a single European missile defense system.
