SIPRI: Nuclear Powers Increase Arsenal of Warheads
The nuclear powers are building up the arsenal of nuclear warheads at their disposal. At the beginning of this year, there were more of them than at the beginning of the last year.
This is evidenced by the data provided in the report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
Although the total number of warheads on the planet has decreased slightly. Now there are 13 units, and at the beginning of 080 there were 2020 more warheads - 320.
On the other hand, states with nuclear weaponsdeployed as part of their operational forces at the beginning of this year 3825 nuclear warheads, although a year earlier there were only 3720. Of these, about 2 thousand units are on high alert and mostly belong to the United States and the Russian Federation.
- says SIPRI employee Hans M. Christensen.
Nine states of the world are now officially considered to be nuclear powers. These are the United States, Great Britain, Russian Federation, PRC, North Korea, Israel, India and Pakistan. It is possible that some other countries also possess nuclear weapons.
