Greetings, George. This is the inevitability that has to be put up with ...
Sokolov - A man with a capital letter, not accustomed to bending his back before the ranks and faithfully fulfilling his duty, has exhausted the limit of vitality.

Another stroke to the portrait of this man who touched me and only with great respect makes me relate to his memory - Sokolov survived the death of his wife for three days. Those. - the man’s heart could not bear the grief of the loss of his beloved man, who passed all his life conflicts with him.

This is a human person. There was, unfortunately ... A bright memory for him ...

222 sorties for attack and 47 for reconnaissance - this is a real Hero.
Especially when you consider that the average life expectancy of attack pilots in the Great Patriotic War (if memory serves) was approximately 60 sorties and this figure was obtained only due to small losses at the end of the war. In 1941, the average life of an attack aircraft was 4-8 sorties.

They are not born heroes. They become! A biography of a truly Russian, humble, honest, and not tainted officer. It is a pity that such people leave. What we have is not kept, but weeping lost!

rest in peace, a brave soldier worthy of respect and respect, defended our independence (at least nominally), but we need people of a different generation, tactics and strategists of modern aviation, I doubt that a respected marshal, I knew what AFAR was, the angle of attack (or rather its absence) of modern machines etc

Enlighten, please, illiterate, .. how is it that your planes fly already without an angle of attack ??? Maybe you are applying for the laurels of Zhukovsky and Mozhaisk and you have your own concepts in the development of aerodynamics ???

And they themselves are at least aware of what the pitch angle and angle of attack differ between themselves ???

that dear marshal, knew what afar

And this is where it ??? Under Efimov, the USSR Air Force had the most powerful, combat-ready and combat-ready group of IBA and FBA !!!

And with your "knowledgeable Taburetkin" ???

I will not say that I was a friend or a well-known friend of Marshal Efimov, but our paths sometimes intersected at various meetings and exercises.
He was one of the few marshals who clearly understood the importance of direct air support for the troops and, in many respects, thanks to him, assault aviation, which they managed to essentially slam in the 50s, reached its peak. Moreover, he paid great attention not only to the "flying machines" themselves, but also to their weapons (in particular, corrected bombs, guided air-to-ground missiles, etc., sighting navigation aviation systems, ground-based control systems for units, formations and aviation associations such as ACS "Etalon", etc. That is, he was well aware of the main technical innovations, including ground and airborne radar with phased array, although, naturally, he did not need to know all the technical details. and the Air Force Research Institute was quite enough to inform him about what exactly needs to be adopted and what, to put it mildly, to neglect.
In general, a worthy person, a brave soldier and a competent specialist was Marshal Efimov. Eternal memory to him
By the way, it was during his "reign" and the reign of his predecessor PS Kutakhov that much of what is now being promoted as the last word in technology was developed.
