Over the course of the week, the Leader of the Polygon will have to participate along with the military in a naval operation, demonstrate his fearlessness and courage, and, in general, not face the dirt.
Becoming a good marine was not so easy. After all, a person who acts equally successfully in three different elements must be very strong - both in spirit and in body. Contrary to stereotypes, marines are landing not only by sea, but also by air. It turns out that all the fighters are called sailors, not soldiers. True, the ranks in the marine corps. Modern marines are fighting more with small arms and artillery, and love for the cold arms - rather a tribute to the traditions and hobbies of individual soldiers and officers, rather than the military doctrine of the Marine Corps.
You cannot feel like a real sailor if you have not passed a special obstacle course. It is a specially prepared area where military operations are simulated and non-standard features of the relief are modeled. The strip serves for general physical development and is a kind of test drive for a rookie: trains the latter not to be afraid of heights, shots, fire, and so on.
After several days spent in the Marine Corps brigade, the Polygon team was so inspired by its energy and frantic pace that it decided to take part in the landing. By the way, when working with the military you begin to understand that their time management is the most severe in the world. They come to the task of a predetermined hour - just in case. The operation was carried out on two landing boats "Denis Davydov" and "Lieutenant Rimsky-Korsakov" - the heroes of World War 1812 of the year. Today, landing operations require exceptional agility and speed. After all, the faster the forces are at the landing point, the greater the chances of success, and not of defeat. And high-speed landing ships of the "Dyugun" type are just a great compromise between capacity and mobility. The hull of the ship is made of aluminum-magnetic alloys, which greatly facilitated it, and the geometry itself, like on all the latest ships, uses the necessary angles to reduce the visibility of radar stations. The length of the boat is 45 meters, and four BTR vehicles can be placed in it without much effort. “Denis Davydov” is controlled by a crew of six people, and on the ship itself everything is quite compact and comfortable. The total horsepower is 18 000, which is a lot for a light aluminum boat. A powerful jet stream, pushing the boat forward during the course, is the result of the operation of ventilated water-jet propulsors. The latter is designed so that the suction side of the blade is intentionally in contact with atmospheric air, which ensures the ejection of the jet stream and the operating mode. That is why the Denis Davydov screws are so close to the dive line. You can go there without refueling up to 700 miles. At a boat speed above 25 nodes, excess pressure air is pumped under the bottom and a layer appears that reduces the hydrodynamic resistance, which improves speed characteristics. Such an air bubble isolates part of the body from contact with water, which allows it to work in shallow water.
Considering the marines from the perspective of military strategy, it must be said that the marines battalion acts as a whole regiment of infantry, only on a slightly reduced scale. At the same time, it is equipped with all the necessary elements, such as mortar platoons, artillery, sappers and communications. Light armored vehicles can always cope with the task of suppressing defense, because the place for landing is always chosen the most vulnerable and undisguised.
The week at the headquarters of the Baltic Fleet will be remembered by the Polygon team for a long time. It was an excellent experience that demonstrated the strength and courage of the marines, their ability to solve global problems in isolation from the main forces. Pioneers and pioneers are always difficult, but the Marines are not one of those guys who are used to give up.
