Some details about the incident with the BDK "Caesar Kunikov"

94
BDK "Caesar Kunikov" was towed to the port due to a breakdown. According to TASS, the large landing ship failed the steering.

"Caesar Kunikov", a large landing ship of project 775/2 from the 197th brigade of the Crimean naval base DC, on Friday, April 19, was withdrawn from the exercise and towed to the basing point in the Crimea. This was reported by "VO" in one of the news summaries. After the end of the maneuvers on the ship, which is more than 30 years old, a malfunction arose. The presence of identified malfunctions was not reported before the maneuvers.

We present some additional details.

April 18, 2019 when returning to the base point after conducting complex naval exercises at the large landing ship Caesar Kunikov of the Black Sea fleet there was a technical malfunction with the steering device

- said in a statement published by the press service of the Black Sea Fleet (BSF).

BDK "Caesar Kunikov" one of the few ships of the Russian Navy of non-Russian origin. He was born in Gdansk (Poland) and was launched in 1986 year.

BDK participated in the exercises of the rescue team of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. The command failed near Cape Chersonesos, after which the tug was called by the captain.

To date, the 30-born combat landing ship in Poland is one of the most active ships in the Russian fleet. He participated in the operation to force Georgia to peace in 2008, in 2015 the BDK opened the route of the so-called. "Syrian express". As part of the operation in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR), Caesar Kunikov repeatedly flew to Syria with weapons and ammunition - primarily for Russian military personnel stationed in the SAR.

The ship was repeatedly upgraded - in 2015, the satellite communications system Centaur-HM2С was installed on it, and the Auriga system was additionally installed in 2018.

Landing with BDK through the front ramp, on the water or on the support. It is made according to a scheme corresponding to commercial cargo ships, thanks to which it is able to carry out loading both from the stern and from the bow.

A large landing craft is capable of landing at agitations with 4 points, and with winds of 5 points. The ship can also be used as a laying machine for setting obstacles.

The ship is capable of transporting tons of cargo up to 480, including military equipment and special equipment. The landing party at transportation settles down in the selected cabin.

The power plant of the 775 / 775М project ships is diesel. It consists of two 16-cylinder diesel engines Zgoda-Sulzer Type 16ZVB 40 / 48 with 10500 power. with. At speeds up to 12, BDK nodes can perform missions with a range of up to 6000 nautical miles.

Now "Caesar Kunikov" will be examined by technical teams and aims to eliminate the identified problems.

This is understandable, but there are no weapons on the Kommun. This is a catamaran ship-lifting vessel. Of the warships, it is worth noting the Smetlivy TFR, which has been in service for 50 years.

There are only 4 of them. Moreover, "Kirov" and "Admiral Lazarev" have already all exhausted themselves. In 2014, the cruiser "Admiral Lazarev" was docked in order to maintain buoyancy, so that the hull would last for another 10 years and it would not sink before disposal began. The Ministry of Defense is disappointed with the results of the modernization of "Admiral Nakhimov" - the actual cost of the work turned out to be more than originally planned, and the deadline for their completion is constantly shifting to the right. 2019 is already underway, and the head of the USC is cautiously talking about 2022. It is not yet clear what to do with "Peter the Great", but you can definitely forget about "Admiral Lazarev". For the disposal of Admiral Lazarev, the PD-41 is quite suitable, where the Ural large nuclear reconnaissance ship finished its journey last year.

Actually, these ships need to be used wisely - rebuild them into nuclear aircraft carriers! For India, from the "old man" an aircraft carrier was sabotaged, so why can't we, having such excellent hulls, not rebuild them into aircraft carriers? It will come out a lot cheaper, and, faster than from scratch, lay and build! My version of rebuilding nuclear missile cruisers into aircraft carriers is the ONLY option for Russia to build aircraft carriers for itself in general! !!

Why are you talking nonsense? I wrote about the BDK, having limited, but anti-aircraft defense. Under the cover of the fleet, their losses would be less than those of transports, and they can transport much more than the submarines that they used because of hopelessness. Why deny the obvious? Recognize the FACT, and do not get out, it looks ridiculous.

You’re thinking bad about Stalin: it was in his power to change an unfit system, but he was engaged in the formation of a system suitable for opposing capitalism in the interests of the entire people of Russia, starting from the year of Lenin’s death.
And then: who is this, it is interesting to know, PREPARED for Stalin a "ready-made" social-ek. system, if it was Stalin and the people who built socialism ?? laughing

For example, send the BDK Designer on a long trip, and so that he would bear the hardships of life there with the soldiers on an equal footing, that he would also go to the tulet with diarrhea (dysentery), that he would also be in the cubicle at +60 with the Marines for 3 furious beds ... and when the structure from the diarrhea of a scorched ass will painfully sit on a wooden floor, and wounds that are not squeamish due to constant infections and climate change will rot ... maybe then ours designers think about a man?

Are you sure about that? I was also taught that this is the case, but life brought me to work on a very curious steamer, which, although it had two diesel engines, was completely uncontrollable. When the machines are working "vrazdrai", he stupidly stands straight, still slightly turned on the spot, but when driving, you can finally do without steering wheels.
And the cause of the breakdown can be commonplace, for example. In my company, one of the steamboats on the Don caught a shallow rudder. The lower balloon bush crumbled. She jammed the baller tightly, so that the rudders did not move at all. The steamboat after disassembling the rudders reached the factory, but they could not squeeze out the buller, although it should go under its own weight! They cut a mortar with a piece of skin, and dismantled it in the workshop, a whole saga was.

There is no sense in this. Completely rebuilding the ship and upgrading the aircraft carrier for India are two different things. They have different displacement. We could try to rebuild if we had VTOL aircraft (for a small number of aircraft). For airplanes of a regular start, it is not suitable from the word at all. As a result of such alteration, there will be no nuclear cruiser and there will be some kind of "non-aircraft carrier"

The fleet will remain, but in what quantity and quality. We can build destroyers. But for this, kmk is needed in addition to just a few things
    1. Fleet construction (development) program. And not for the next 5-7 years, but for the long term, for 20-30 years. The program must say "once and for all" which ships the fleet needs. So that the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, or the Minister of Defense, or the President, who came next, does not reshape this program for himself only because some of them do not like aircraft carriers or landing ships. The country has enough minds, there are people who are able to give an answer to the prospect that the fleet needs. Do not finish any shuffling.
    2. Financing, and not on a residual basis, but quite serious.
    3. Personal liability (including criminal liability) of both ship builders and contractors, and financiers. so that it doesn't work "No money, but you hold on"
And then, maybe, the terms will not be shifted by 5-10 years to the right. The shift itself may well be due to force majeure, but the main thing is that this force majeure does not become a constant

I agree with many things, but the "program for 20-30 years" is questionable. Science, including military shipbuilding, weapons, IT, etc., is developing at such a speed that today it is difficult or simply impossible to predict which ship will be needed in 10-25 years. Ships laid today for 20-30 years will most likely become obsolete in ten years. Therefore, I think that the program should still be limited to 10-25 years. And to base it both on promising developments, primarily inaccessible to the general and even a narrow public (amateurs will torture them with advice), and on real financial, economic and production capabilities. This will probably determine the possible range of military-political tasks to be solved. After all, the surface fleet (submarine is for the most part an integrated part of the strategic deterrent) is basically the "long arm" of state policy. To determine how long it can and should be long and clawed is the question for naval theorists and the leader of the country.

BDK "Caesar Kunikov" towed to the port due to damage. According to TASS, the steering of a large landing ship has failed

and what, now a ship with two propellers cannot be steered by itself (working by machines)? There is another version of what happened, more similar to the truth: "On the morning of 18.04.2019/775/2, according to preliminary data, a few miles from Cape Chersonesus, the Caesar Kunikov large landing craft of project 197/XNUMX from the XNUMXth brigade of the Crimean naval base of the Crimean Naval Base was heading to the Feodosia region. lost track for technical reasons. The rescue tug SB-5 and the fire-fighting vessel PZhS-123 were sent to his aid.

Those that are not on the go for decades, already consider that not. This is not conservation after which the ship is put into operation within a reasonable time. We need new systems, repair and modernization of spent reactors.
In a word, it is really better to lay new ships of new projects.

A steering breakdown, or rather a steering breakdown, is not something out of the scope of the military service. It happens with younger ships. Well, what happened after the exercises and near Chersonesos. In such situations, the tug is not required to tow the ship, but to assist with maneuvering and mooring. Will be repaired. It would be much worse if it happened during the passage of the Straits.
By the way, here some comments mourned the death of two "Orlans". It's a pity, beautiful and powerful ships, but ... A heavy nuclear cruiser does not sail by itself, it needs an escort, a grouping of ships and support vessels of different classes. Without a naval base and full-fledged aircraft carrier escort, and even with Kuznetsov, such a long trip with tankers, tugs, floating workshops, supply vessels and even new frigates will remind me, alas, of the Rozhdestvensky squadron's march on the way to Tsushima. My personal opinion is that modern Russia needs TARK of the "Orlan" type rather as ships of military-political representation, nothing more. Therefore, their large number and their attempt to solve strategic tasks by them in the conditions of the total advantage of the NATO fleets is only a huge burden on the budget without a practical way out and without a chance for success.

I'm just discouraged !!! The ship has been in service for 30 years and it does not bother the admirals, and after 12 years of service, they actually "wrote off the nuclear cruisers". What does it mean?! As for the BDK, this is not a tragedy, it will be repaired and returned to service. The old man will still serve!
