The US Department of Defense has decided to more widely use the Swedish grenade launcher Carl-Gustaf M4 in the US Army. The US armed forces and the Saab company have signed a large multi-year contract for the supply of these grenade launchers to the US military, reports "Warspot" with reference to the press service of the company.

The US Army has signed a major contract for the supply of Carl-Gustaf M4 grenade launchers

According to the signed three-year agreement, the US Army can purchase Swedish grenade launchers for about 380 million Swedish crowns. This year, the United States buys grenade launchers for approximately 170 million Swedish crowns ($ 19 million).

According to Eric Smith, the executive director of Saab Defense and Security USA, the M3E1 grenade launcher (as Carl-Gustaf M4 in the USA is called) has been a favorite for many years weapons support for US Special Operations Forces. Now, the US Department of Defense has decided to arm it with the Marine Corps and Light Infantry Units of the US Army. Earlier it was reported that the Defense Advanced Project Projects Agency (DARPA) of the US Defense Ministry launched the development of guided missiles for grenade launchers Carl-Gustaf M4.

The Carl Gustaf grenade launcher was created by the Swedish engineer Siegfried Axelson on the basis of the Carl Gustaf Pvg m / 42 anti-tank gun. The weapon is designed to destroy armored targets, manpower and enemy fire positions, as well as creating smoke screens and lighting the area. For seven decades, four modifications have been created (M1, M2, M3 and M4), the last of which was presented in 2014 and has a mass less than 7 kg (the first one weighed more than 16 kg). Due to the variety of 84-mm ammunition, Carl Gustaf is a multifunctional combat weapon and is in service with 45 armies around the world.

Good weapons are always in demand, it is clear that we are accustomed to praise only our systems, but without slyness, you can also praise Gustav ...

good thing friend. we had such in the army. during the exercises, they were the only ones to shoot from the basements at target tanks. from very deep holes they can shoot ... back almost against the wall resting. like LNG. only manual, from the shoulder. This recoilless gun is the so-called. and eats different ammunition.

"Fighters" for anything, prefer Soviet weapons, because they are everywhere in bulk and they cost a penny, or they just give them away, if only there is something to "fight". And "Karl Gustav" is a modern and very good and not cheap weapon to distribute to "fighters".

The weapon, indeed, is not bad ... but it was created on the basis of a 20-mm "recoilless" rifle arr. 1942! And in our country, Kurchevsky struggled to do something like that ... alas, "for some reason," it didn't work out! Sometimes they say that at the present time "K. Gustav" has "turned" into "assault" infantry weapons, having lost the function of effective anti-tank weapons. But this is not so "unambiguously sad" ... and for "Gustav" there is an over-caliber ( 135-mm) grenade! And, if we recall the modern "fashion." When even a 40-mm "grenade launcher" is turned into a rocket launcher, it is not excluded the creation of a completely effective missile with an over-caliber warhead for "K. Gustav" like , "Anglo-Swedish" NLAW!

A reusable RPG with a barrel weighing 7 kg (plus the weight of a grenade and a satchel closure for carrying four closures) is pure archaic, now the trend is the use of disposable RPGs with a Kevlar TPK weighing 1 kg (including a shoulder strap for carrying).
