Developed by the Tekhmash concern in the interests of the Russian VKS, the newest planning Drel aerial bomb has successfully confirmed the declared characteristics during state tests, Interfax reports with reference to the deputy general director of the concern Alexander Kochkin.
According to Kochkin, the tests pass according to plan, all declared characteristics of the bomb are confirmed. There are no fears that state trials will fail. According to the plans of the Russian Ministry of Defense and according to the program of the customer, the state tests of the Drill bomb should be completed before the end of this year.
The 500-kilogram Planning Drill Aerial Bomb was developed by the NGO Basalt (part of Techmash) in 2016. The bomb is designed to arm operational tactical aircraft aviation and is capable of hitting armored vehicles, ground-based radars, command posts and anti-aircraft missile systems. An aircraft armed with such aerial bombs may not enter the affected zone of enemy air defense. After dropping from the carrier, it can plan over 30 km, while it is almost not displayed on radars. At an altitude of about 250 meters above the target, a cluster charge is revealed. Aiming at the target is carried out using the GLONASS system.
Earlier it was stated that in the future, the drill "Drel" could also come into service with Russian fifth-generation fighter Su-57.
