Bomb "Drill" was tested. "Drilled" successfully

Developed by the Tekhmash concern in the interests of the Russian VKS, the newest planning Drel aerial bomb has successfully confirmed the declared characteristics during state tests, Interfax reports with reference to the deputy general director of the concern Alexander Kochkin.

Bomb "Drill" was tested. "Drilled" successfully

According to Kochkin, the tests pass according to plan, all declared characteristics of the bomb are confirmed. There are no fears that state trials will fail. According to the plans of the Russian Ministry of Defense and according to the program of the customer, the state tests of the Drill bomb should be completed before the end of this year.

The 500-kilogram Planning Drill Aerial Bomb was developed by the NGO Basalt (part of Techmash) in 2016. The bomb is designed to arm operational tactical aircraft aviation and is capable of hitting armored vehicles, ground-based radars, command posts and anti-aircraft missile systems. An aircraft armed with such aerial bombs may not enter the affected zone of enemy air defense. After dropping from the carrier, it can plan over 30 km, while it is almost not displayed on radars. At an altitude of about 250 meters above the target, a cluster charge is revealed. Aiming at the target is carried out using the GLONASS system.

Earlier it was stated that in the future, the drill "Drel" could also come into service with Russian fifth-generation fighter Su-57.

Caliber - the nominal mass of an aerial bomb with fixed geometric dimensions, expressed in kilograms or pounds (in Russia and the USSR until the early 1930s, in pounds). For air bombs of the USSR and Russia, the caliber is indicated in the bomb symbol after the type name.

            satellite-guided

Vladimir, "guidance" already implies that she is already at least flapping her wings .. correcting the flight. KAB-500, with cassette warhead. Otherwise it is just, say, Hephaestus-24, which calculates altitude, speed, wind, humidity and other parameters and resets it. And she's already planning. Nothing depends on the satellite. Only the moment of reset.
            // This, as I understand it //

Even in the corrected, sometimes they shove their own engine. Then the range increases from 30 to 70.

Any on-board system calculates speed, altitude, wind, etc. (of course, we got excited about the humidity) and determines the drop point, after the drop it plans, the "satellite" guides. The moment of the bomb release is calculated based on the satellite navigation you mentioned. And, they throw such a bomb. it is necessary from a great height, so that she can simply plan, for such a bomb and the aerodynamics are very different from the usual one.
If, for example, a coarse high-explosive bomb with a caliber of 500 kg is dropped, then the bomb will be planned for a rather long time, this is of course simplified to say, if in the language of the ballistics of an aviation bomb, the bomb itself will move after the dropping in the direction of the plane, and at the moment of separation of the bomb from the plane its speed will be equal to the speed of the aircraft. And, this movement itself will be very significant if you drop any bomb from a great height - this rel huge.

Hephaestus-24, which calculates altitude, speed, wind, humidity and other parameters and resets.

What place does Hephaestus-24 calculate atmospheric parameters? The Achilles' heel of Hephaestus is that in order to achieve high-precision indicators (small QUO) for unguided bombs, you need to know the exact position of the wearer, the exact terrain in the target area and the exact characteristics of the atmosphere in the area of bomb dropping. If the atmosphere is turbulent in the area of the target, then no Hephaestus will not allow an uncontrollable bomb to accurately fall. Enough unaccounted for side gust of wind, so that the dropped uncontrollable bomb deviates from the calculated place of fall by tens - hundreds of meters. Satellite-guided bombs were created primarily to counter such atmosphere variability.

          And how cold?

In 2016, NPO Basalt presented a new development that develops the ideas of existing projects. At the Army-2016 forum, the planning bomb PBC-500U “Drill” was shown, equipped with combat elements SPBE-K. The cassette with a special aerodynamic appearance, using satellite and inertial navigation, is able to plan for a distance of 50 km and deliver combat elements to the 15 target area.

A deeply modernized element called SPBE-K is distinguished by slightly increased dimensions and a different shape of the case. The cylindrical body of the parachute compartment and the fighting compartment now have a greater elongation, and the instrument compartment has an increased height. Probably all of these improvements are directly related to the use of a combined target search system. In addition to the infrared optical-electronic device for detecting armored vehicles, a radar system is now used.

It is clear that they are not put forward before the discharge, if the speed is not exceeded, then it will not tear off of course. I just say that it is reset at subsonic speed and it is noticeable in its aerodynamic design - rectangular stabilizers, and the small sweep of the wing, which is quite long by the way, generally does not imply large loads.

They won’t get to modularity .. Otherwise, our design bureau will have nothing to eat, i.e. conduct new research and development.
A range of 30 km can be justified by the following:
      - "Drill" with SPBE-K is designed to destroy armored vehicles, and armored vehicles tend to change their location. Consequently, if you drop it far, then the armored vehicles can simply leave the area that is covered by SPBE-K after the deployment of the cluster bomb.

      2. Israel has several airfields in different parts of the country
      3. Israel does not forgive (they have a different religion: "eye for eye")
      4. Israel won all the wars with its neighbors, despite the supply to neighbors of modern at that time Soviet weapons and the help of Soviet advisers
5 Israel has the most saturated and layered air defense system (the benefit is small) and is capable of shooting down not only planes, but also missiles and bombs fired from them.
      6. Hatred and underestimation of the enemy led to the disasters of 1905, 1914 and 1941.
