Central Design and Research Bureau of sports and hunting weapons (TsKIB SOO), part of the Tula Instrument Engineering Design Bureau, has begun to develop a civilian version of the Russian sniper rifle OSV-96 12,7 mm caliber, reports TASS with reference to TsKIB SOO director Alexei Sorokin.
The director of TsKIB SOO within the framework of the Army-2018 forum stated that at present the bureau is already working to "turn" the military rifle into a civilian sample. It is planned that already this year a new weapon will enter the design testing stage. At the same time, the bureau added that the civil cartridge caliber 12,7-mm for the new rifle has already been created.
The press service of the NPO "High-Precision Complexes" confirmed the creation of a civilian version of the OSV-96 sniper rifle and noted that the demand for this caliber in the civilian market is significant and is growing every year. The rifle for a powerful cartridge is planned to be used for commercial purposes, for hunting large animals, as well as for protection against predators when conducting work in remote areas, etc.
OSV-96 "Vzlomschik" is a Russian semi-automatic large-caliber sniper rifle chambered for 12,7X108 mm. Sighting range - 1800 m. The size of the store OCB-96 is five rounds. The rifle is in service with the Ministry of Defense, the Interior Ministry and the Federal Security Service of Russia.
