Turkish media reports that a citizen of Turkey Serkan Kurtulush was detained by law enforcement officers in Georgia. Kurtulush, according to the Turkish secret services, is suspected of involvement in the execution of Russian military pilot Oleg Peshkov.
Recall that the Su-24 Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft was shot down over the northern regions of Syria by Turkish Air Force fighters in the 2015 year. Pilots ejected. Militants opened fire on large-caliber machine guns at the landing soldiers. Oleg Peshkov died. The navigator Konstantin Murakhtin was eventually rescued by a special forces detachment. On the same day, while performing a rescue operation, a soldier of the Russian Armed Forces Alexander Pozychnich was killed.
Georgian police detained Kurtulush 29 June in Tbilisi. At the moment he is kept in the detention center of the city of Rustavi. Ankara sent to Tbilisi a statement requesting the extradition of a militant suspected of involvement in the murder of a Russian pilot.
According to Turkish law enforcement officers, Kurtulush is a member of a criminal gang, in which there are 18 people.
Earlier, in May last year, another representative of this group was convicted in Turkey. We are talking about a man named Alparslan Celik, who at first declared to the camera that he had killed a Russian pilot, and then, at the trial, began to deny his words. As a result, the Turkish court found Celik guilty under the article on illegal possession weapons and sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment. The investigation into the possible involvement of Celik in the execution of Oleg Peshkov in Turkey continues.
