Indian general called national air defense obsolete
In a letter dated March 12 to the media, General Singh stated that India ran out of ammunition for tankselite units lacking weapons, and almost 97 percent of air defense weapons are outdated. In addition, according to the general, servicemen are poorly equipped with night-vision equipment.
Vijay Kumar Singh's letter caused a great resonance in the ruling circles of India. According to DNA, the general has already addressed similar questions to the Minister of Defense of the country, Arakaparambil Kurian Anthony, but received no reaction.
Earlier, General Singh became a party to the corruption scandal. According to Singh himself, retired Lieutenant-General Tejinder Singh offered him a bribe in the amount of 140 million rupees (2,8 million dollars). Tejinder Singh, in turn, accused the chief of staff of SV in defamation.
As previously reported, in the 2012-2013 of the fiscal year, the Indian government allocated almost 40 billions of dollars in defense needs, which is 17 percent more than last year’s military budget. In this case, the budget of the Navy increased by 74 percent.
