Somehow, it is not customary for us, the Slavs, to speak about a person just good words, when his working life is not over yet, and the existence on our mortal Earth has not stopped. That is our nature. Nevertheless, I would like to tell about this person now, because such people bring glory to the Russian arms.
Outstanding, in our deep conviction, gunsmith - designer Telesh Valeriy Nikolaevich was born on July 2 1939. He has a regular biography, except for an enviable constancy in the choice of a job, he worked from 1965 for the TsKIB sports and hunting weapons, which is located in the city of Russian gunsmiths - the city of Tula. After graduating from the institute, he worked for 6 for years as an assistant to a number of well-known Tula designers - gunsmiths, and from 1974 he left for a narrow specialized industry - designing and manufacturing grenade launchers.
The 30-mm AGS-17 “Flame”, which was then in service with the SA, had a weight of 30 kg, which was a certain problem for the motorized rifle divisions, such a heavy type of weapon broke all the tactical specifications of the motorized rifle divisions of the SA. Telesh V.N. initiatively takes up the development of an experimental product, much lighter in weight, capable of producing a shot of a new 40-mm stun grenade.
History create TKB-0134 "Goat"
Taking into account the prospects for improved performance characteristics of the new grenade launcher, the idea was supported by the military department. From 1980, the creative team of designers, which included the developers of ammunition, closely engaged in the development of a new grenade launcher.
The entire model range of these products, which began with TKB-0134, was equipped with automatic gas, which locked the barrel channel by turning the shutter. The drummer, who at the same time played the role of a piston of the gas-extracting mechanism, was rigidly connected with the slide frame, and during the production of the shot he pierced the primer of a grenade. Before firing, the moving parts of the bolt were moved back, the feed of the grenade cartridge cartridges to the firing line took place during the rollback of the barrel when the feed lever came into contact with the figure-type shutter frame slot, and when it rolled, the shot fell into the barrel, which was immediately locked .
The use of automation has gone in this usual way, but the constructive solution for its use cannot be called rather original.
Inside the casing, a frame with a shutter located inside moves along the guiding strips. The piston-drummer is designed in the gate, and the return spring is inside it. Thus, all parts of the mechanism and nodes are oriented relative to each other and coaxially with the receiver. This creates the possibility of trouble-free operation of all parts of the mechanism of the product.
Successful practical tests in the field, using fireproof ammunition led to the creation of simple, light weapons with excellent ballistics. It turned out a great sample weighing 16 kg, with preserved accuracy and increased muzzle momentum. By the end of the 80s, the tests of the Goat (as the grenade launcher was called) were completed.

Work on the creation of this complex began immediately after the test "Goat" "Balkans" began to create from the beginning of the 90-ies, in order to increase the firing range and its effectiveness compared to 30mm - shot. AGS-17. To this end, the designers have changed the caliber in a big way, having designed a rather unusual cartridge for this type of weapon with the caliber 40 mm, which was a non-shot shot. Soon all the preliminary work was completed, the components and assemblies were ready and tested, but the difficulties of the economy did not allow to finish the work. It is said that the military still keeps the "Balkans" on the note. This is quite natural: a prototype Russian model is twice as good in terms of weight and effectiveness of use, and a strapless shot is three times more powerful than American unitary loader ammunition.
Now the development of the Balkan grenade launcher complex, which includes the 6Г27 automatic grenade launcher on the machine and 40mm beskolochnye 7P39 ammunition to it, is engaged in the specialized enterprise Pribor, the main participant in the development of automatic-type grenade launchers and small-caliber automatic type guns in Russia. In 2008, this company organized the delivery to the Russian Armed Forces 6 of Balkan products and a certain amount of ammunition for field tests, so it is likely that these products will soon be in service with the Russian Defense Ministry. At this time, the technical characteristics of 40mm grenade launchers "Balkans" improved - there was progress in the firing range, which increased to 2,5 km and in hit efficiency, which also increased 2 times compared to 30 mm - AGS-17 and AGS-30 grenade launchers.
