North Korea has a bomb - South will have one!
In South Korea, they are seriously talking about creating their own nuclear arsenal. Too dangerous neighbor is nearby. And no UN sanctions and angry statements from the “world community” led by the United States are not intimidating. Even the threats of Mr. Trump on Twitter are not terrible. Smiling Kim Jong-un Know yourself rocket launches before smokes. He is thinking about uniting the two Koreas and spreading the Juche ideology to Seoul.
But in South Korea, the Juche is not believed in a bright future. And talk in Seoul and go about developing your own nuclear weaponsand about the deployment of American weapons in the country. However, the latter idea in the Republic of Korea is not officially approved.
The Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan recently stated that the United States is not considering the issue of deploying nuclear weapons in the country. “We never thought that we should host US nuclear assets,” the administration’s official quotes "Lenta.ru". “We respect the global non-proliferation regime and continue to build our policies within this framework.”
But not so simple.
First, the South Korean media wrote that the issue of deploying American nuclear weapons was discussed during the visit of Defense Minister Son Yong Moon to Washington, where he met by James Mattis (head of the Pentagon). And flashed messages that Mr. Moon allegedly himself hinted at a similar opportunity (about accommodation).
Secondly, it was from here that the information came that Seoul was still considering the issue of deploying the American nuclear shield in opposition to the weapons of North Korea. Consideration of the "issue" contributes to the difficult situation in Northeast Asia. This was confirmed by scientists.
“We can say with great precision that this issue [of the deployment of American nuclear weapons in Kazakhstan] was discussed at a meeting of two ministers [Son Yong Moon and D. Mattis],” said "RT" Russian Korean studies professor, Kukmin University in Seoul Andrei Lankov.
Lankov also knows the reason why the administration of the South Korean president publicly denies such a possibility: “Such negotiations may irritate some supporters of the current government, although not even the majority. It is not excluded that now President Moon Zhe Ying and his advisers simply do not want to reveal all the cards. ”
According to the scientist, the situation in northeast Asia is such that Seoul is seriously considering the idea of deploying an American nuclear shield on its territory as opposed to North Korea’s nuclear weapons.
There is another expert opinion. “We already know that the South Korean military can do such things behind their backs, because in May of this year they lied to the newly elected president that they have not six PRO THAAD launchers, but six. Part of the South Korean generals have a servile admiration for the Americans, ”Yevgeny Kim, a leading researcher at the Center for Korean Studies at the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told RT. At the same time, "at the political level, there can be no talk about the deployment of American tactical missiles in South Korea for the simple reason that then it fully justifies in the eyes of even the South Korean and American public all the actions of this country in building its own nuclear weapons."
The return of the US nuclear arsenal to the land of Kazakhstan in 2017 was raised by the leadership of the leading opposition party, the Korean Freedom Party. The current president of South Korea, Moon Jae Ying, represents the Toburo left-liberal Democratic Party, and she has a negative attitude to such ideas.
But this does not mean that Seoul will be deaf to nuclear initiatives. The current president fears that in a conflict with the DPRK, the Americans will not come to the defense of an ally. “Now in South Korea, there is great concern about whether the country can count on a military alliance with the United States, which has been the basis of the entire South Korean military strategy for more than half a century,” emphasizes Andrey Lankov. “There are fears that when North Korea gets an opportunity to deliver nuclear strikes on American cities, the Americans will decide not to exchange Seoul for San Francisco.”
Such an assumption, we note, has every reason. As long as Mr. Trump rolls empty sentences in the net, the young energetic DPRK leader is building missiles, conducting tests, spitting on UN sanctions and threatening to turn to ashes not only San Francisco, but also Washington. So much so that Southern California is afraid of a “catastrophic” nuclear strike by North Koreans: officials are even thinking about evacuation! Already plans compiled by.
Noting the threats to North Korea, the United States Regional Intelligence Center in Los Angeles issued a sixteen-page bulletin warning that a nuclear attack on Southern California would be "catastrophic." The bulletin calls on officials to take action against the nuclear threat.
The paper said that the intercontinental ballistic missile produced by the DPRK could reach the west coast of the United States. “The propaganda spots of North Korea show the ruins of San Francisco and Washington,” the report provides a strong argument.
Some financial calculations have been made. Americans can count money. According to Rand, only one nuclear explosion in the port of Long Beach can cause damage of more than a trillion dollars, not to mention the massive loss of life and destruction of infrastructure. “Rand” warns of panic among the population, environmental pollution, problems with transport and so on.
And Donald Trump, the president of the superpower, can do absolutely nothing with the leader of little North Korea!
That is why they do not trust Americans in South Korea. The expert is right: the Americans would not “trade” Seoul for San Francisco.
In addition to the return of American nuclear weapons to the peninsula in the form of a security guarantee of Kazakhstan, another idea is being considered: the development of the Seoul missile program.
Public opinion polls in Kazakhstan show that more than half of South Korean citizens want nuclear weapons at their disposal. In early September, 2017, this opinion was expressed by 60% of respondents (Gallup Institute survey data). And there is no doubt that South Korea will have enough financial and technical capabilities to take a place in the club of nuclear powers. In addition, the first to develop nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula began not at all northerners, but southerners, said the above-mentioned Andrei Lankov in the newspaper "News".
It was in 1970's. In secrecy, scientists and engineers worked to build a nuclear bomb. They managed to make good progress, but the Americans stopped the project. Today, other South Koreans still believe that the assassination of General Pak Chon Hee in 1979 was organized by the Americans. True, these same Koreans are firmly convinced that the ancient Chinese, as well as the Sumerian civilizations were created by Koreans.
In the current situation, when it may be a question of “exchanging” Seoul for San Francisco, it seems to be a logical step for Southerners to develop their own nuclear weapons. Appropriate weapons will allow the RK to create an independent defense system.
Lankov does not think that it is so simple. As soon as the nuclear program is launched, the country "will be under international sanctions." Sanctions will cause a severe economic crisis. Beijing is a separate danger for Seoul here: China will not accept the entry of South Korea into the "nuclear club". For the Republic of Kazakhstan, Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam, who have not the best relations with China, will break out into the “club”. At present, China accounts for about a quarter of South Korean foreign trade, the expert reminds, and the introduction of restrictive measures by Beijing may cause a large-scale economic crisis in South Korea.
There is, we note, another option - intermediate, with some reliance on the international community. More precisely, based on the United States, which in global politics quite often replaces the “global community”.
Anthony Cordesman, a staff member at the Center for Strategic and Defense Studies (Washington), assumes that the United States should not only think about deploying nuclear weapons in South Korea, but also give Seoul the opportunity to get its own nuclear bomb. "They [the United States] must expand nuclear deterrence in order to close South Korea and Japan, and can also decide to either re-deploy modern tactical nuclear weapons in South Korea, or agree to the creation of South Korean nuclear forces," the television channel quoted the American expert. "RT".
Finally, the timing of the development of nuclear weapons. It will not be fast, but very fast!
According to the experts of the newspaper “Chosun Ilbo”, to which the same “RT” refers, in case of need, Seoul can create nuclear weapons in eighteen months.
But what will Comrade Kim from a neighboring country say to this? Only he will answer this question.
The conclusion is obvious: it is impossible not to take into account the possibility of Seoul developing its own nuclear weapons, but most likely, the Americans will deliver their own weapons to South Korea, thereby achieving two goals: sending an ultimatum "signal" to Kim Jong-un and assuring Seoul of strong allied relations. In the end, after his ominous statements at the UN General Assembly and on Twitter to North Korea, Mr. Trump will have to take some obvious actions: otherwise the allies on the planet will no longer understand him.
If Trump does nothing, and Seoul in one and a half years, despite the danger of UN sanctions, creates its own nuclear weapons, Japan and other regional states will follow the example of South Koreans. The baton will be picked up, of course, in Iran and Saudi Arabia. And the global nuclear arms race will begin ...
