Leaving the EU is harder than entering there!
The results of a survey conducted by “The Mail” by Survation showed an amazing picture: the British 53 percent believe that the United Kingdom should hold a new referendum. It is only necessary to wait for the terms of the agreement with Brussels on the British exit from the EU.
Figuratively speaking, the British Prime Minister "is on his knees": the issue of life and death is for "The Civil War" in The Cabinet of Ministers for Theresa May. We are talking about plans for Brexit. Even British deputies now say “without confidence” about leaving the EU. Survey data shows that two thirds of the voters are in favor of a “soft exit”. Former British minister David Jones promises "voters' rage" because T. May’s course is aimed at a "hard exit", despite attempts to keep the UK in the EU single market or in the EU customs union. About this mentioned Jones told "The Mail". His statement was like a fixation of a new public opinion: a sociological poll showed that the overwhelming majority of citizens are in opposition to the so-called “hard” Brexit.
A survey of “Survation,” conducted last Sunday, showed that people vote for a “softer” position, which the Chancellor of the Treasury, Philip Hammond, had previously supported in relation to exit from the EU. This man today heads the camp of critics of the tough "divorce" of Britain with the EU. The results of the survey showed that the Chancellor "strongly support" two-thirds of the voters, while the entire 31% approves of the "hard" parting with Brussels (that is, until the country's withdrawal from the customs union).
Ms. May’s allies “are desperately trying to support her,” the newspaper writes with irony. More recently, May was saddened by the “catastrophic final result of the elections,” then she was haunted by the problems with terrorism and the inability to adequately respond to them, and now she was faced with the fact of popular distrust. It was not for nothing that one “brexither” said: “May is on her knees, and Hammond is clearly using this fact”. It got to the point that "some deputies" began to think over the "letters" in order to express Teresa May distrust. These documents will be sent to the right place, if May’s activities “do not improve” within ten days. A no-confidence vote will take place if the 1922 committee of the year (the “back-benders committee”) receives 48 letters (15 percent of the parliamentary party).
A source in parliament told the publication that opponents are ready to present an “ultimatum” to Mrs. May: she will have to resign from her post, give up the position of a new leader - a man who will do everything to avoid a split in the party. A high-ranking deputy, the “breaker”, suggests that the “most preferred choice for the majority” would be the current foreign minister, Boris Johnson.
The chaos in the government and among the deputies is generated by the fact that the procedure for leaving the EU turned out to be truly hellish. According to sources from the EU, since March 2019, during the discussions on Brexit, more than 7.000 different issues should be resolved: from pet passports to aviation security. The difficulties of "divorce" are striking in their scale.
The Foreign Ministry fears that the exit bill will lead to months of “civil war” in the House of Commons, which can throw off the government right now, when that one does not have a majority.
A high-ranking government source says that supporters of the soft exit will hang a sword of Damocles over the heads of “hard” brexitiers. They will start submitting endless “amendments” to the exit bill. The goal - to bring to a dead end a hard way. And this will lead to a change in the nature of negotiations with Brussels: after all, the Europeans will understand that Britain simply does not have a single exit position!
The Tory “rebels” are likely to unite with the Labor Party deputies — those who say they intend to subject government negotiations to “continuous evaluation” (a series of ballots during negotiations). The goal is to push ministers to retreat from a hard exit option.
One cabinet member said in an interview with the publication: "The Cabinet is divided, the party is divided, the country is divided."
According to some deputies, the Foreign Ministry is close to paralysis.
Former Prime Minister, member of the Liberal Democratic Party, Alistair Carmichael, said: “There is no majority in the House of Commons for the tough Brexit. It seems that Teresa May is still attacking her own chancellor and almost all independent economic authorities ... My simple message to Teresa May is: retreat, or you will lose power. ”
Mr. Hammond is convinced that British jobs and the country's prosperity depend on preserving the advantages of a customs union, at least for a transitional period. People will be able to adapt to the new conditions of trade.
A survey of "Survation" showed that 65% of citizens are against such an exit. Total 35% agree with the tactics of the Prime Minister.
High support for the idea of a second referendum on whether to accept the conditions of the final Brexit deal with Brussels. A total of 53% "for" a new plebiscite. “Against” such a referendum - 47 percent, a difference of six points.
In the meantime, anxiety is growing in Europe over some kind of "ekskit" - no longer British. Who is next?
The participants of the sociological survey “Sputnik. Opinions” (conducted by the center “IFop”) from the UK, Germany, Italy and France are sure that after the United Kingdom someone else will come out of the EU.
This opinion, notes RIA News", adhere to 64% British, 52% Germans, 57% Italians and 49% French. A significant proportion of respondents believe that Brexit will serve as an example for several countries at the same time: 55% of British residents, 50% of Italians, 42% of French, 39% of Italians chose this answer.
Young people (people younger than 35 years) speak about the probable exit of one or several states from the EU. The corresponding data was obtained in Germany, France, Italy. And only in the UK, the result was the opposite.
Those who are confident that in the foreseeable future the EU will not leave any state, were in the minority. The corresponding answer was chosen by 33% French, 32% Italians, 39% Germans and 18% British.
It seems, we add, the serious difficulties that the UK is experiencing today, in which the government and the people have split into two hostile camps, do not really care about the respondents. The British Prime Minister is losing people's trust, former political supporters have come up against her, and in the leading EU states, citizens are already “picking up” the next candidate for a “divorce” from Brussels. If Marin Le Pen had won the elections in France, this candidate could have been known.
