In the 1970-s, a very specific ship was developed, which in its TTX resembled the American design of an arsenal ship much later. The cruiser project 1080 was intended to strike at coastal targets. Its main weapons were to be ballistic missiles "Elbrus-M", the sea version of the Elbrus missiles, being developed to replace Temp-S missiles.
The layout of the ship promised to be very unusual. In the central part, between the two superstructures, there were located mine PU rockets in packages of 50 units, in total 200 units. "Elbrus-M" with a starting weight of 7,6 tons could hit targets at a distance of 1000 km. Self-defense equipment included the Dagger and the AK-726 artillery. In addition, the ship was based 2 helicopter. However, the development of the Elbrus rocket was eventually discontinued, which led to the cessation of the design of the 1080 cruiser.
