The project was approved in 1980. A feature of it was the possibility of placing two people one after another in the same cabin, but the main technical and combat indicators of the SU-27 were preserved in full. For the first time this model of a combat training machine was demonstrated at 1989 at the Le Bourget air show. In SU-XNUMHUB laid the possibility of dual control. To support road stability on 27 sq. M the area of vertical tail has been increased. This modification of the aircraft was successfully exploited not only by the Soviet Air Force, but also exported to Vietnam and China.
The next modified design of the Su-27 is the Su-33 ship-borne fighter with horizontal takeoff and landing. It was designed for operation on the atomic cruiser.
At the end of the seventies, by order of the government, defense enterprises began building aircraft carriers with an increased displacement and equipped with equipment that allows them to produce not only horizontal, but also vertical takeoff and landing. Therefore, initially it was planned to place on it the Yak-41 fighters (vertical take-off), the Ka-27 helicopters and the Su-27K, MIG-29K fighters, (horizontal take-off), and also the Su-25K attack aircraft.
In May, the 1982 of the year began the trial operation of the ship version of the SU-27 family of fighters. Initially, the development of take-off and landing was carried out on the ground in a specially equipped lane, then the tests were transferred to the cruiser. The ship fighter had an enhanced remote control system and the latest hydraulic system. Console wing and stabilizer was made with the possibility of partial folding. Changes were made to some structural parts of the base aircraft. A braking hook was installed under the tail section to enable the aircraft to land on the deck of an aircraft carrier. The aircraft had the ability to refuel directly in flight.
Officially, the new Su-33 shipboard fighter entered service in August 1998. Even now, this combat aircraft is considered the best fighter of the ship-based. It surpasses in all flight and technical indicators US aircraft of similar target use, which are inferior to it in maneuverability, range and acceleration characteristics. But the revision of the SU-33 is carried out in constant mode. This primarily relates to adapting it as a multi-purpose aircraft. To do this, its radar equipment, control system, information equipment will be improved, new weapons are being installed: air-to-surface missiles and a laser guidance system. The power of the SU-33 will increase significantly when it is equipped with tactical anti-ship and anti-radar missiles, new generation bombs, as well as tactical missiles capable of hitting targets at a distance of 300 km. The SU-33 ship multipurpose aircraft will effectively be able to protect the Navy ships from an air attack.
The base models for the SU-27KUB were the SU-27 and SU-33П. The aircraft is designed to perform a large range of combat missions. The first prototype was tested at the airfield in Zhukovsky in 1999 year. SU-27KUB has a powerful propulsion system. For the effective interaction of the crew seats pilots installed nearby. Additionally, on this model is installed on board the oxygen generator. SU-27KUB is equipped with 12 missiles and a gun GSH-301.
The SU-34 front-line bomber is also based on the SU-27. SU-34 received a successful reservation, which increases the survivability of the aircraft in combat conditions. The range is two thousand kilometers without refueling and additional tanks. It has the latest electronic equipment, including a radar, which allows you to attack targets without approaching them at close range. SU-34 is able to carry about eight tons of weapons: from mines to cruise missiles. Possessing the maneuverability of the SU-27, the bomber can stand up for itself in an air battle. A comfortable cockpit, in which pilots can stand upright and stretch during a long flight, is of no small importance. Modification of this bomber allows its use in the coastal aviation.
