The remains of the Libyan fleet in Tripoli
In the course of the NATO forces ’campaign against the Gaddafi government, the British Royal Air Force twice attacked the Libyan naval forces and ships under the control of Gaddafis in Tripoli. Evening 19 May 2011, British Tornado fighter-bombers with guided missiles Brimstone GR.4A seriously damaged the patrol boat Al Ghardabia (tail number "213") Soviet project 1159TR and sank or seriously damaged three missile boats of the type La Combattante IIG French-built, one of which completely sank, and two remained in a submerged state. During the re-raid on the night of 9 in August, the Tornado GR.4A fighter-bombers of the 617 Squadron finished off the Al Ghardabia patrol ship with a direct hit by the 500-pound Paveway IV guided bombs, causing the ship to tip over onto the port side and sink to the wall. It should be noted that Al Ghardabia, according to known information, was already out of order and did not go to sea from 2007 of the year.
Judging by the photo essay and known information, two large landing ships of the French Ibn Ouf type, two La Combattante IIG type missile boats, one Project 266ME sea minesweeper, several patrol boats and two landing boats and an Al rescue vessel survived from the Libyan Navy ships in Tripoli. Munjed Yugoslav built. Of the other Libyan Navy ships, according to known data, the Al Hani patrol ship (tail number "2011") of project 212TR, the small missile ship Tariq Ibn Ziyaad (tail number "1159") of project 416E and the sea were captured by rebels in Benghazi in February 1234 Project 123ME minesweeper Rass Al Massad (tail number "266"), as well as one La Combattante IIG missile boat, two Project 205ER missile boats and several patrol boats (the list may not be complete). It is unclear the fate of the small missile ship Ain Zaara (tail number "418") of Project 1234E that was in malfunctioning port of Misurata (according to some reports, it was destroyed as a result of the strike aviation NATO on the evening of May 19).
