Protest against integration with Russia: oppositionists in Minsk tear up portraits of Putin

The Belarusian opposition has opposed deepening the integration of Belarus with Russia. Unauthorized protests are taking place in the center of Minsk, in which about 700 people are participating. This was reported by the Belarusian media.

The opposition of Belarus staged protests against unification with Russia on October Square in Minsk. The rally is taking place ahead of today's meeting in Sochi between the presidents of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko. Participants of an unauthorized rally walked along Independence Avenue to the Government House on Independence Square.



In the hands of protesters against integration with Russia, national white-red-white flags, posters with the slogans of protest. The action participants are chanting the slogan "Long Live Belarus!" On the steps of the Palace of the Republic, the crowd initially ran into the police, but then law enforcement officers retreated, and the protesters began to destroy the portraits of Russian President Vladimir Putin. There are calls to "defend the independence of Belarus," while "they are selling it in Sochi."



We defend the independence of Belarus and therefore we go to Independence Square, to the Government House. Then we will return to Oktyabrskaya Square and continue until night (rally - approx.), And we will meet again tomorrow, because Lukashenko and Putin are going to sign (integration documents - approx.)

The Belarusian media report that “more or less significant figures of the Belarusian opposition have already come out in silence” in Minsk. Some Ukrainian media write that the Belarusians "thank the Ukrainians who support the independence of Belarus and are fighting against Putin and Russia."

Earlier it was reported that in the afternoon a meeting between Putin and Lukashenko will be held in Sochi, where, in particular, issues of in-depth integration of Belarus and Russia within the Union State will be discussed.
