The Russian military adviser, who was killed in Syria on February 1, was presented for a state award, the Defense Ministry told Interfax on Wednesday.

"The Russian military adviser in Syria performed tasks to assist the Syrian army in the development of new weapons supplied under the existing interstate contracts of military-technical cooperation," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

According to him, "February 1 as a result of mortar shelling by terrorists of the ISIL military garrison, where one of the Syrian army units is stationed, the officer was fatally wounded."

The soldier is presented to the state award posthumously.
