Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu held a press conference on Wednesday morning, where he announced the start of the first cycle of sanctions that Turkey decided to impose on Syria to increase regional and international pressure on the Syrian administration, which used violence against its people, as well as to prevent the tyranny of the Syrians by the administration.
A brief review of these sanctions, designed with “extreme care” to cause minimal damage to innocent Syrians, shows that they deserve to be described as “reasonable sanctions”. I hope they are implemented with equal caution and sensitivity. Turkey has openly declared that it intends to act with extreme caution so that the measures it plans to apply against the Assad administration do not harm the Syrian people, since, in its conviction, people should not be punished for the mistakes of the Damascus administration.
Here is the result of Ankara’s economic sanction.
Economic strength declined to 50%. Trade and investment fell by 50 percent. The economy is expected to shrink from 12 to 20 percent this year. Unemployment rose to 22%. Revenues from tourism amounted to 6 billion, at this stage it is completely stopped. Oil production fell from 368 thousand to 270 thousand. 14 private banks lost 2 billion dollars.
