While working on the reconstruction of the Warnow dam in the German city of Rostock, on November 16, builders discovered parts of an old Russian tank. The next day, on Thursday, November 17, a 17-ton steel tank turret with a gun was removed from the ground. When removing the tower, shells and six grenades were found, which, according to a representative of the municipality of Rostock, were neutralized. At the same time, the sappers discovered and extracted the remains of the crew (femur, forearm bone and rib).
This is a tank T-34 / 85, which, according to the recollections of witnesses and eyewitnesses, first entered Rostock 1 in May 1945 of the year along the street, which entered the city, and later became known as the “Road of Liberation”. In the area of the bridge of the mill dam, he was hit by a local policeman. From the explosion, the tank tower was dropped on the side of the road, and the tank itself was probably later settled in the body of the dam and was bombarded during its next reconstruction. After 66 years, builders stumbled upon the remains of this tank. According to the city representative of the Rostok administration, Ulrich Kunze, the Bundeswehr Museum in Dresden showed interest in the remains of this tank.
