The Argentine defense ministry and the China North China Industrial Industries Group Corporation (Norinco) have signed a contract to supply 110 VN1 armored personnel carriers with 8x8 wheel formula equipped with an 12.7-mm machine gun, reports blog Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies.
These machines are intended for the Argentine battalion as part of the joint Argentine-Chilean peacekeeping forces Fuerza de Paz Binacional Cruz del Sur, as well as for the 10 of the mechanized brigade of the Argentine armed forces.
In addition, the agreement provides for the subsequent assembly of these machines at the shipbuilding and ship repair company Tandanor, located in Buenos Aires, which is part of the state shipbuilding and ship repair association Complejo Industrial Naval Argentino (CINAR). Moreover, it is planned that the BTR will be assembled, including for export to other Latin American countries.
It is worth noting that Argentina became the second customer of these machines in Latin America after Venezuela, which signed a contract for the supply of a batch of 60 armored personnel carriers for marines in 2012 year. The first armored personnel carriers of the Venezuelan military received in December 2014 of the year.
BTR VN1 is an export version of the main Chinese wheeled armored personnel carrier PLA ZBL09, developed by Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group Company (known as Plant No. 617), which is part of the Norinco group. It is also the only plant in the PRC that produces the main Tanks.
