Rogozin: the titular nation to be
It is clear that in our country any national question is a barrel of gunpowder, which can explode from the manifestation of excessive interest to it with addiction. But, nevertheless, Russia today is in dire need of resolving such an issue. The most interesting thing is that the whole Western world, to which today's Russia regards itself, needs it. On the streets of London, it is increasingly possible to see groups of girls whose faces are hidden by the hijab. At universities in France, more than a third of students come from North Africa and the Middle East. And in football clubs in both Russia and Europe, one can study global ethnology. How to treat this? It is quite loyal if people who come to work or study in Christian countries do not show excessive aggression to local traditions and cultural norms. So the Muslim communities of Great Britain and Switzerland are already demanding today to grant them wide autonomy without the right to extend state laws to this territory. They seek recognition at the highest level of Sharia enclaves in London, Manchester and Zurich. Burning the Bible or the state flag is common for these people. But as soon as it comes to the fact that they must abide by the rules and laws of residence in a particular country, plus respect local customs, this will result in a storm of anger. Recall at least how these people reacted to the statements of one American priest about the possible burning of the Koran in retaliation for the burning of the holy book for Christians.
Such a situation cannot but spawn the views of people who will be directed against multiculturalism. In our country, one of such politicians is Dmitry Rogozin. Back at the start of 2000, he outlined his position on how he sees the future of Russia. The Motherland Party, organized by him, achieved quite significant results in the December parliamentary elections 2003 (more than 9% of the number of voters). One of the party’s slogans was the one that called for a non-dominant role for the Russians in the framework of multinational Russia. And this is among other program points: to raise the standard of living, to pursue a targeted security policy, to develop health care and education. People listened to the ideas of Rogozin and expressed approval. However, Dmitry Rogozin still crossed the reserved edge. With all the love of the Russian people, any statements directed against other nations are the shortest way to destabilize the situation in the country. Rogozin’s unwarranted step is a scandalous video in which he called for "clearing Moscow of garbage." At the same time, it was clear to everyone that, or rather, who exactly he means by the word "garbage".
Since then, the opposition career Rogozin ordered to live long. Moscow, however, decided not to get rid of the talented politician and offered him the post of ambassador to NATO. Agree that the role is as far from the internal Russian processes as it reflects the uncompromising nature of Mr. Rogozin. It can be said that the Kremlin indirectly hinted to the world community with this gesture that the position of Rogozin, despite its open nationalism, may be useful when dealing with the Alliance. It would seem that the post of ambassador to NATO should have finally removed Dmitry Rogozin from the problems of domestic policy, but Rogozin is by no means one of those.
At the Yaroslavl Forum, he allowed himself a number of statements from which the Russians could recognize the former Rogozin. Firstly, he promised to return to big politics, and secondly, he compared the problems of Russian and Western reality, putting a sign of identity between them. The words of Dmitry Rogozin quite boldly replicated the American and British publications. At the same time, it should be noted that the Rogozin quotes did not at all evoke irony, similar to the one with which the words of Medvedev or Putin were quoted. Apparently, the West supports the message of Rogozin.
This is all the more surprising, because the West has always considered Russia not to be identically equal to itself, and even did not allow our country with its problems to approach its spheres. It turns out that several nationalistic ideas of Rogozin can rally Russia and Western countries.
Let us hope that attempts to use such a thing as a titular nation will not lead to incitement of inter-ethnic clashes. After all, the main task of cultivating a titular nation is to defend its interests not to the detriment of the interests of cooperation with other nations. The task is difficult, but quite solvable.
