Protests against US military presence in Okinawa passed in Japan
Chinese agency Xinhua quoted one of the organizers of the rally:
We are talking about the possible transfer of the American military base of Futem from the city of Ginowan (Okinawa) to Henoko. According to Japanese media reports, the Prime Minister of the Land of the Rising Sun, a few days before his visit to the United States, announced to the Governor of Okinawa about the "proposal" to Washington to transfer the military base to Henoko and expand it. It should be noted that residents of the city of Ginowan repeatedly sent petitions to the governor and the prime minister with the request to close the Futem military base, as the US military often behave in an inappropriate way in the city, causing inconvenience to local residents. However, Shinzo Abe, apparently, can not afford to close the American base, and therefore is looking for a way out of its transference.
By the way, Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onago replied to the prime minister with a refusal of the proposal to transfer and consolidate the base, as he believes that the "transfer" is only an excuse to increase the volume of American military presence on the islands. Now Mr. Abe will have to explain himself in Washington and look for another solution.
