Russia through the eyes of Margaret Berk-White (1931-1941): Magnitogorsk, 1931 year
Her stay coincided with the violation of Germany non-aggression pact. She was the only foreign photographer who was present in Moscow during the German attack. Then she visited many fronts - North African, Italian, in France and Germany. Made an excellent report on the everyday life of the American bomber compound. Colleagues called Margaret Burke-White "The Enduring Maggie." She was not afraid of anything and did not consider herself a weak creature. The album of her military photos “Sleep well, Vaterland”, published in 1945, was widely known.
At the start of 50, she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Career ended, began a long, exhausting and futile treatment. Margaret wrote an autobiographical book under the simple title “Self-portrait” (by the way, the picture above, in the flight overalls is also a self-portrait), but did not take pictures anymore and communicated with people less and less. She died in Connecticut in 1971 year.
