Poroshenko hopes for gas supplies from Turkmenistan

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Kiev is counting on the resumption of gas supplies from Turkmenistan. This statement was made by the head of Ukraine after meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. Poroshenko announced that Turkmen gas could be an "alternative source" for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president drew attention to the fact that Ukraine has a powerful complex of power engineering, and Ukrainian state-owned enterprises are interested in supplying turbines and compressor stations to Turkmenistan. According to the president, Ukraine is ready and interested in the resumption of supplies of Turkmen gas as an alternative source.
At the same time, Poroshenko said that Turkmen investors could come to Ukraine for "the implementation of large projects." During the meeting, the president of “Square” asked Rashid Meredov to convey an invitation to visit the head of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to visit Kiev.
Earlier, the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, Mr. Demchyshyn, said that Kiev may refuse to purchase Russian gas from April 1. From January to the end of February, Ukraine imported Russian gas in the amount of 1,8 billion cubic meters.
If Ukraine is going to buy gas from Turkmenistan, it is not yet reported what route Kiev is ready to choose for this. If this is not transit through the territory of Russia, then the pipe should lead the gas through the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan and Georgia, and then also through the Black Sea (by tankers or a pipe along the bottom?). What the final cost in both these cases will be for Turkmen gas for Ukraine - a question to which Kiev does not give an answer.
