Fuel Service Day
The starting point in the history of the Fuel Service (SG Sun) was 1936 year. 79 years ago, on the orders of the then head of the People’s Commissariat of Defense, Clement Voroshilov, the Red Army Fuel Supply Directorate was established (later, the Fuel Service of the Armed Forces of the USSR). History has kept the name of the first head of the SG Sun. This man was Nikolai Nikolayevich Movchin (1896-1938). Even before the official establishment of the Fuel Service, Nikolay Movchin became one of the initiators of the formation of a prototype of the structure. We are talking about the management of fuel supply for the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army.
Nikolai Movchin is a military specialist who is also known for his work on the history of the Red Army, as well as the creation of a mobilization strategy. In 1935, he was promoted to colonel, which, unfortunately, was the last in his military career. The fact is that approximately 1,5 years after his appointment to the post of head of the Fuel Supply Department of the Red Army, Colonel Movchin was arrested and later executed by a court sentence (the so-called “Tukhachevsky case”). Nikolai Nikolaevich was rehabilitated posthumously - in August 1956 of the year.
Perhaps the greatest contribution to the development of the NG in the Soviet period was made by a man who is rightfully called the patriarch of the Fuel Service. This is Vasily Vasilyevich Nikitin, who stood at the helm of the USSR Supreme Council for about three decades. It was under General Nikitin that the Fuel Service passed, as it is now fashionable to say, through the main stages of structural reform. Vasily Vasilyevich SG accepted in a state that could be characterized, as the newspaper “Krasnaya Zvezda” once wrote, “receive-give out”. During the same time, the leadership of Vasily Nikitin, the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of the USSR, expanded significantly, acquiring additional functionality. The service has become a full-scale segment of combat support, as the growing strength and strength of the army set new and new tasks for the rear services, the solutions of which were by no means simple.
During the Great Patriotic War, Vasily Nikitin was part of the operational group of the Office of the fuel service. Some time later, he headed the department of the Service, and on his shoulders lay the responsibility for the timely provision of fuel to armies and divisions. The servicemen who were part of the fuel service divisions often performed real feats by transporting fuel for military equipment directly to the front line.
In fact, the soldiers of the Fuel Service during the war are heroes who remained in the shadow of the glory of pilots, tankers, paratroopers, sailors, but this does not detract from their contribution to the common heroic victory gained by titanic work and unparalleled courage. Understand the role of the fighters of the fuel service and at the front. The timely delivery of fuel often decided the outcome of a local confrontation, which in turn gathered in the overall picture of the defeat of Hitler’s army.
The fuel service under Vasily Nikitin has also become a segment of the organization of scientific work to improve the characteristics of the fuel. First of all, we are talking about changing the formula of jet fuel. General Nikitin himself took the most direct part in such scientific work. Vasily Nikitin became one of the developers of the fuel transportation system for military purposes using pipelines. It was Nikitin who at one time proposed to solve the problems associated with the delivery of fuel to the Soviet troops in Afghanistan by installing a pipeline. With the joint efforts of the servicemen of the Fuel Service and the Pipeline Troops, the pipeline in Afghanistan began to function, ensuring the supply of fuel to the troops. The total length of the two pipeline directions in Afghanistan was more than 1200 km. 5,4 mln. Tons of fuel was pumped through this infrastructure facility - about 80% of the total supply.
Including for these merits, Vasily Nikitin was declared the Laureate of the State Prize, becoming, for new generations of servicemen, a true example of service to the cause, with which he linked his fate.
Today, the Fuel Service solves the tasks of storing and transporting fuel by land, sea and air. Specialists of the Special Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carry out refueling operations, servicing hundreds of warehouses, automated points for the delivery of fuel, filling stations and bases of various subordination.
If in 2010, the annual fuel turnover in the RF Armed Forces was about 8 million tons, now this figure has grown by almost 50%. This suggests an increase in the intensity of the activities of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, which in turn gives rise to talk about increasing defense capability.
"Military Review" congratulates all military personnel and veterans of the Fuel Service of the Armed Forces (all "fuel sources") on their professional holiday!
