India is developing a “Nirbhay” cruise missile for Su-30MKI

18
The organization of defense developments (DRDO) of the Ministry of Defense of India has started the development of an air version of the Nirbhai subsonic cruise missile for Su-30MKI fighters, the newspaper reports MIC with reference to the press service of the DRDO.

"Launch from the aircraft is scheduled for March-April this year," - said in a statement.

According to the developers, “its integration with the fighter’s systems is underway and the possibility of launching from low altitudes is being developed in order to minimize the likelihood of tracking by radars”.

The release notes that "for the Nirbhai missiles on the Su-30MKI, existing Brahmos missile pylons can be used." The possibility of equipping Tejas light Indian fighters with these missiles is also being considered, but for this it is necessary to “shorten” the “Nirbhai” by almost a quarter.

The development of the ground-based version of the Nirbhai began in 2007. According to experts, “it has high accuracy and range to 1,5 thousand km.” True, to this day only two tests of this version have been carried out. The first launch took place in March of 2013. He was recognized as “partially successful” because flying 250 km at a speed of 805 km / h, the rocket deviated from the course and was destroyed.

The second launch took place in October last year. This time the flight was in normal mode. The rocket flew more than 1 thousand km, having spent 70 minutes in the air, while the deviation from the trajectory was less than 10 m.

I always rejoice for countries (except the USA, etc.) that are trying to create something themselves, albeit clumsily and yet .. Own! I hope India doesn’t imagine himself a hegemon .. A strong Army is, first of all, insurance against external aggression and the calm development of the state’s economy .. And most importantly, the national identity of the people! hi

And we need to fill the niche of subsonic cruise missiles with a large air-base radius for tactical aviation, not strategic but tactical. bully

Indeed, with Rafal they have lately been muddy, since they are developing a missile for the SU, from this we can conclude that India will not buy Rafali from France. It looks like they will be replaced by Russian Su-30MKI.
If you equip it with a nuclear warhead, it’s quite possible to turn out a strategic bomber in response to the Pakistani Kyrgyz Republic Babur with a range of 700 km and existing only in the ground version.

        Your opinion.
Is it possible to use nuclear weapons in the conflict between Pakistan and India? And with China.
All the same, "Mahabharata" is nagging, the consequences. And if this is a "look into the future". And not the past.

The rocket is being developed for Su, because the Raphales are not. "Rafali" will appear and integrate for them.

laughing Both of them have a digital board, which means that on Rafal, you just need to modify the pylons ... Or AKU. Plus software.

Stanislav hello! "Lagging behind" the reality wink

Back in August 2014, Pakistan conducted another successful test of the Raad (Hatf-VIII) air-launched cruise missile.
According to press reports, the Raad and Babur missiles, which have much in common, will be the main cruise missiles in service with the Pakistani army and air force.

Nirbhai, unlike the more advanced Bramos, is a purely Indian development, even an engine for it is being developed.
In 2006, a contract was signed with the Russian company Saturn for the 36MT engine, but to what extent this contract is located is not known. There are also suggestions that India has secured technical support from Israel.
However, according to the latest information

10.02.2015 Indian Nirbhay cruise missile will be equipped with a new compact turbofan engine developed by the national company GTRE, defencenews.in reports today. It is reported that ground tests of the engine are underway, the design of the power plant has not yet been given, and its characteristics are also unknown. GTRE previously worked on the creation of a Kaveri turbofan for mounting on a Tejas light combat aircraft, but the program was closed due to technical difficulties. KR "Nirbhai" is designed primarily to equip surface ships and submarines, has a flight range of 1500 km, the weight of the warhead is 1000 kg. In 2014, the developers said that as a result of flight tests, the rocket reached all the declared characteristics. Further, it is planned to develop a version of the rocket to equip ground platforms and an aviation version.

From those pieces of information that has become available to the media, we can safely conclude that the Indians, as always, underestimate. Two tests for a rocket of this class, and given not yet one successful one, we can say that they still do not have a rocket.

The question logically begs: Will there be a marine option? We have loaned you 971B, and he carries the "Granat", Club-S ... So, you are already there - try! laughing
The underwater start of such a thing - well, it may very well be unexpected.
Moreover, the range and accuracy (claimed) are very good (1,5 thousand km, 10 m). good
