Egyptian government offers Russia to switch to settlements in rubles in the tourism sector
81
For the first time in the past few years, there has been a tendency towards a decrease in trade turnover between Russia and Egypt. At the same time, the Egyptian government department responsible for tourism reported a decrease in the flow of Russian tourists to Egypt in November-December, 2014. Egyptian Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazu said that this could be directly related to the growth of the US dollar against the ruble. So that the growth of the American currency did not cause a decline in commodity turnover between Egypt and the Russian Federation and a decrease in the number of Russian citizens vacationing in Egypt, the Egyptian cabinet of ministers proposed to the Russian tour operators about switching to mutual settlements in rubles.
As the "Russian newspaper" With reference to the Minister of Tourism of Egypt, Russian tourists could purchase tours to stay in Egyptian hotels for rubles, which would save a lot on vacation and not lose on exchange transactions. In addition, the Egyptian authorities have decided to go on other unprecedented preferences for Russian citizens who are going to rest in Egypt, canceling the 25-dollar visa fee. The mode of canceling such a fee is valid until 1 in May of the current year.
The Russian Union of Tourism Industry is discussing the proposal of the Egyptian side. And such a proposal is worth discussing as soon as possible!
For reference: in 2014, Egypt was visited by almost 3 million tourists from Russia. This is a third of the entire Egyptian tourist traffic and one of the main items of income of the local budget. In December, the Ministry of Tourism of Egypt recorded a decline in tourist traffic by 8%. This recession in the tourism industry is due to the fact that many Russians prefer to rest overseas in Russia.
