Sergey Lavrov: on double standards in foreign policy, the UN and NATO

Sergey Lavrov: on double standards in foreign policy, the UN and NATODuring a speech to students and teachers of MGIMO on the occasion of 1 Knowledge Day, September, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was against double standards in foreign policy that had manifested themselves in the case of a wave of revolutions in Arab countries.

"For double standards dictated by the political situation or the objective preferences of one or another power, there should be no place," Lavrov said.

“It’s hard to understand, for example, why in Yemen, where a serious armed conflict continues, all members of the international community rightly try to help find a compromise between the authorities and the opposition, while a number of influential countries are persistently provoking the opposition to a boycott of proposals about the national dialogue and forcing up the confrontation, refusing to even discuss the belated, but still very real reforms proposed by President Bashar Asad, "explained the min p.

According to Lavrov, in this situation, "external players" should take special care, and not seek to "grab geopolitical benefits for themselves."

At the same time, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Russia supports the movement of Arab countries towards democracy.

"Russia supports these aspirations aimed at finding a democratic model," he said. Lavrov also added that the driving force behind the processes in this region was "the desire of Arab peoples for a better life through the renewal of their countries."

Meanwhile, Sergei Lavrov drew attention to the fact that the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UN) on peacekeeping operations should be very clear and contain specific limits on the use of force.

“When the UN Security Council decides on peacekeeping or peace-enforcing operations, their mandate should be extremely clear and exhaustive with regard to the purpose and participants of the operation, and especially with regard to limits on the use of force. Russia will attend to this in the future,” the minister said.

Lavrov recalled that the neglect of these rules led to sad consequences in the case of Libya.

"Russia never justified the former Libyan regime. Back in May, President Dmitry Medvedev said that Muammar Gaddafi should leave. However, the way the Libyan resolutions were implemented by NATO members and some other states means a gross disregard for the principles of the rule of law, ignoring the initiatives of the African Union and the UN, multiplied the number of civilian casualties, and that was exactly the main goal of the resolution, "said S. Lavrov.

“We are sure that it is impossible to administer justice using lawless methods,” the Russian Foreign Minister concluded.

In addition, during his speech, the head of the Russian foreign ministry spoke on the political assurances of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on security issues.

"Political assurances, as practice shows, are not enough. There were, for example, assurances that NATO would not expand eastwards. The fate of these assurances is known. Then there was NATO’s commitment not to deploy significant combat forces in the territory of the new members of the alliance. But we We still cannot get an explanation of how these assurances are consistent with the ongoing advancement of the Alliance’s military infrastructure to the East, which is also being actively replenished with elements of the European segment of the global anti-missile harrows (ABM), the United States, "- Lavrov said.

“The American Euro missile defense system is being created on the parameters that Washington defined and which, as the Russian leadership has repeatedly said, by the end of this decade could pose a threat to Russian strategic nuclear forces. At the same time, we are not guaranteed guarantees of non-directionality of the US-NATO missile defense system against Russia,” head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

What is not clear here? The base on Socotra has long ceased to exist, while the base in Tartus still exists.

"We are confident that you cannot administer justice by methods of lawlessness" - as they say, Captain Obvious!

And how can we defend our rights ??? They ditched the whole army.

"The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Russia supports the movement of Arab countries towards democracy." I would like to clarify with our Foreign Ministry what kind of democracy Lavrov is talking about? About the lawlessness that the so-called rebels are doing?
What kind of noodles does he hang on our ears? After all, everyone understands that the democrats pursue only their goals. What else can I talk about? Russia will take care, what? He points out that there is a threat to Russian nuclear forces. And who doubts this? With our reforms in the army, we can lose everything. While amateurs such as Serdyukov and his financiers will be engaged in the transformation in the army, there will be no sense. He hit into the care of the soldier. Not only is the service life 1 year, so now the soldier should not clean his location, territory, toilet, etc. He can, but he can’t clean. Shame. Mommy can now accompany her son to the barracks. After all, you need to wipe the snot with a litter shaker, which can’t even clean your teeth. And how can we respond to the machinations of the United States and NATO? It's time to cut out batons and invite otherworldly forces. Its not enough.

People like Lavrov, as the representative of Russia in the United Nations Churkin, as our sanitary doctor Onishchenko and many others like them deserve all respect

They do not look at what Russia is now - with or without oligarchs - they simply defend their homeland and fulfill their duty - each in his own place to the best of his ability
(while we're just talking about it here)

Of course, besides them, there are others — whose names we don’t know — our scouts in the states, submariners under the Arctic ice, pilots of strategists on duty in the sky, and many others

If not for these people, then we might not live to see our vote for the Communist Party. Criticizing oligarchic power, one must always remember that there are patriots in power - or just at least people who honestly do their work and defend the interests of the country

"there are others - whose names we do not know - our scouts in the states"
Now we know - one kid (I forgot my last name) from the SVR leadership last year completely merged our rezentura in the States and closed it in the States (there was a high-profile case).
"When criticizing the oligarchic power, one must always remember that there are patriots in power there too."
Do you know, Ivan35, how did the last Serpent Gorynych die in Russia? Zasek, a three-headed village in the forest, and taxed it: every week give him meads, give me food there, lad. Well, the month was so delayed, the second, and the third - a bummer. there is nothing. He stumbled, flew into the village - empty, no one. Gorynych opened his mouth and yelled: - Is there anyone here ?! A startled voice from around the corner answers him: “Who are you?” The serpent roars: - I am the Three-headed Miracle-Judo! In response to him: - Yud? Foyer !!! Is the hint clear?

Lavrov is certainly better than Kozyrev, but I generally keep quiet about Shevarnadze during the USSR. But these are only MGIMO students, if only from the UN rostrum ...

As "rulers" are, so is politics. They gave the command to "merge" the former allies, fulfilled and merged.

Why be surprised at foreign policy failures? Which go constantly, over the past 25 years? One has only to see what kind of contingent studies at MGIMO ..... And these people will be entrusted with waging a foreign policy struggle on the diplomatic front .... What will be the result .... In my opinion, it is clear ...... And the fact that wars are playing politicians, as a rule, I don’t think need proof. .... There are quite a few examples in history ... How many examples there are that the army could win the war, and politicians ask for ... all military achievements ... ..
