Independent Ukraine: 20 years on the path of crisis and collapse
What, son, help you your Poles?
N.V. Gogol, "Taras Bulba"
Yesterday, Ukraine celebrated 20 years since gaining “independence.” 24 August 1991, it was proclaimed by the Supreme Council of the Republic. Since then, Ukraine has come a long way. Let's be frank: it was a way of crisis and collapse. As part of the USSR, Ukraine was the most powerful and influential republic. It's no joke, 50 million people lived in it! Ukraine had a huge industrial potential. She was called the breadbasket of the USSR, for she also had a highly developed agriculture.
Immigrants from Ukraine occupied a leading position in the leadership of the USSR in the period after Stalin's death. This was explained both by the structure of the CPSU, which ruled the Soviet Union, and by the power of Ukraine as a republic. As a Soviet republic, Ukraine had its own Communist Party - the Communist Party of Ukraine, headed by the first secretary. Russia, the only republic stronger than Ukraine, did not have its own Communist Party, its regions were directly subordinate to the CPSU Central Committee. As a result, the Central Committee of the Communist Party, of course, had more influence than the Moscow City Committee: after all, only 8 million people lived in Moscow against the 50 million in Ukraine. The Russian regions, taken separately, were weaker than Ukraine.
If in the initial period of Soviet power the Jews had a significant influence on state power, then after Stalin’s death, it passed to the Ukrainians and immigrants from Ukraine. Do not believe?
Nikita Sergeevich Khrushchev, first secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1953 to 1964, was for a long time the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (1938 - March 1947, December 1947 - 1949). Even after moving to Moscow in 1949, he, as secretary of the Central Committee, continued to “monitor” Ukraine.
His successor was Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev, who also worked for many years in Ukraine as the first secretary of the Dnipropetrovsk regional committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine. The closest associate of Brezhnev was Nikolai Podgorny. In 1965-1977 he served as the formal head of the Soviet state — chairman of the presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. In 1957-1963 Podgorny was the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, in other words, he also came from Ukraine.
1953 to 1982 The highest posts in the Soviet state were occupied by people very closely connected with Ukraine. The first secretaries of the Ukrainian Communist Party were also honored and enjoyed considerable influence. As a rule, they were part of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU. For example, a member of the Politburo was Peter Shelest, the first secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee in 1963-1972. Vladimir Scherbitsky, who replaced him in this post, was not only a member of the Politburo, but was also considered at the beginning of the 1980s. as one of the possible successors of Leonid Brezhnev as general secretary of the CPSU Central Committee.
As we see, under the late Soviet regime, Ukraine lived well. Rather, even good. For example, the standard of living in Ukraine was higher than in Russia, and everyone knew that. Of course, Ukraine did not live as well as the republics of Transcaucasia showered with Soviet money, but, nevertheless, it was “cooler” than Russia.
What happened over the past 20 years? Ukraine went the same way as all the republics of the former USSR. And, like them, she did not find anything good on the path of independence. Industrial potential lost. Agriculture is in decline. The population has declined from 50 million to 45 million people, and its number continues to fall. Moreover, in terms of per capita GDP, Ukraine has overtaken China. Yes, according to the latest data, in China, $ 7519 is accounted for a person, and in Ukraine only $ 6712 is accounted for. And despite the fact that the population of China is 1,3 billion people, in other words, it surpasses the Ukrainian one almost 29 times.
The economic decline and population decline led Ukraine to the loss of the status of a major European power, which it had 20 years ago. Indeed, at the time of independence, the Ukrainians had a “weight category” comparable to France, Italy, and Britain. These countries also had more than 50 million of population, and now they even crossed over 60 million. But the Ukrainian population was declining. And now, given the weakness of the economy, Ukraine is in the same weight category with Poland (38 million people) and even Romania (21 million). In any case, the Romanians, taking advantage of the favorable position of the European structures, are trying to rob the Ukrainians of Snake Island, which occupies a strategic position near the Danube Delta. 20 years ago it was impossible to conceive of this.
In short, Ukraine is stuck in the quagmire of independence, so much so that the tractor does not pull out. The powerful European power, as it was at the beginning of 90's, turned into a decrepit and weak “post-Soviet country”. However, it was good. At the beginning of the “zero” years, the Ukrainian economy showed high rates of economic growth. She grew at an average of 7% per year. But unstable progress “slammed” the “orange revolution”. Confusion in the government led to a halt in development. Now Ukraine’s GDP is only 65% of the year available in 1990. In other words, Ukrainians still cannot recover 35% of their economy.
Independent Ukraine has nothing to brag about: it never surpassed Soviet Ukraine. No wonder. Ukrainians still have not explained even to themselves why they need independence. The only intelligible ideological slogan was put forward by former President Kuchma: "Ukraine is not Russia." Well, Ukraine has already 20 years as not Russia, but where is happiness? Happiness is not and is not expected. Modern Ukraine was created as a result of Bolshevik, and earlier Austro-Hungarian propaganda, which sought to weaken the Russian people from its Little Russian branch in order to weaken the Russian people. The project was a success. And now this branch is rushing in a turbulent flow storiesbeing unable to influence her.
Of course, the highest chic for the Western powers would be to embroil Ukraine and Russia to death, so much so that they bring the matter to war. Such technologies are well known. The British managed to divide India into India and Pakistan proper, after which the two states fought several times, washing themselves with blood, to the delight of the colonialists. The situation is similar in relations between Jews and Arabs. So a war between Russians and Ukrainians would be a great joy for the Western powers. But even Yushchenko could not arrange it, although, of course, he really wanted to.
And today, the rotten Ukrainian propaganda still works to demonize the Russians, falsely claiming that the Russians are not Slavs at all, but for some reason Finno-Ugrians. The propaganda used to say that the Russians were Mongol-Tatars. Now, for some reason, she no longer actively lies about this. Perhaps because the Russians are not at all like the Crimean Tatars living in Crimea.
In short, after Ukraine was created and used against the Russians, no one needed it and hung in the air, where it hangs safely for the last 20 years. Because, together with Russia, Ukraine is a force that was reckoned with throughout the world. And separately, Ukraine is simply “Nenka Square”, which systematically receives kicks from Romania. If Ukrainians continue to think in the same way, then people will forget where Kiev is.
While the Ukrainian project should be considered unsuccessful. Part of Russian torture and the "famine" forced to declare themselves "Ukrainians". But after they did it, it turned out that, from the point of view of the “big western guys,” Ukraine is, at best, a prefix to Poland, and they will not take it to the Western world. So sadly ended at the moment the history of Ukrainian Russophobia and the war against Russia.
"And Karabas-Barabas remained sitting in a puddle in the rain." Ukraine is sitting in the same pool, and the end of the rain is not visible ...
