Today marks 11 years since the tragedy of the Kursk submarine
The solemn construction and laying of wreaths and flowers at the memorial to the dead sailors of the Kursk nuclear submarine will celebrate this mournful anniversary at the Vidyaevo garrison. Mourning ceremonies will be held in all fleets of the Russian Navy, as well as in military districts. Flags will be lowered on ships and submarines, in the naval units and subunits a minute of silence will be held in memory of the Kursk crew.
In the Northern Fleet, as reported by ITAR-TASS in the Office of the Press Service and Information of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, "the ceremony of laying wreaths on the water will take place in Motovka Bay of the Barents Sea with the participation of fleet command, relatives and family members of the dead submariners."
In Moscow, as noted by the Ministry of Defense, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at a memorial sign to dead submariners at the Central Museum of the Russian Armed Forces. A complex of commemorative events will take place in Tushino Park, on the quay near the B-396 Submarine Museum, which will be attended by representatives of the Navy Command, the Admiral Club public organization, veterans' organizations, military sailors, and relatives of dead submariners.
The Russian Orthodox Church also prays for the repose of the souls of the dead submariners. A memorial service will be held in the Moscow Church of the Resurrection outside the Serpukhov Gate. The Nikolo-Bogoyavlensky naval cathedral in St. Petersburg, where the memory of the crew of the Kursk is immortalized on memorial plaques, will also serve a memorial service for the victims, and flowers will be laid at the monument at the Serafim cemetery.
The submariners will be remembered in Kursk, Makhachkala, Voronezh, Sevastopol and other cities of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
According to the findings of the government commission, the torpedo explosion in the nose compartment of the submarine caused the death of the crew. The commission, which worked for more than two years, established the exact time of the death of the submarine. According to the experts, the death of the Kursk sailors came in from a few seconds to 6-8 hours after the explosion, and by the time the 13 boat was found in August, it was impossible to save the 23 sailor remaining in the ninth compartment.
