The FSB officers in Tatarstan detained eight alleged leaders of the republican cell of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, reports Lenta.ru report with reference to the press service of the regional management of security officials.
“As a result of a special operation to curb the activity of the regional cell of Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, eight leaders of the republican structure were detained. During searches conducted at 20 addresses, a significant amount of propaganda material was seized. ”- reports agency.
According to local publications, some of the detainees have already been convicted for organizing the activities of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami.
Criminal proceedings were instituted against the detainees for "organizing the activities of a terrorist organization and participating in the activities of such an organization." The sanction of the article provides for up to 10-years of imprisonment.
