In 2011, the Russian Navy will begin the program for the modernization of the 1144 Orlan heavy nuclear missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov, Interfax reports citing a source in the General Staff of the Navy. This ship was put into repair in 1999, but work was never started. For 12 years, the cruiser stood idle at the pier of the Severodvinsk enterprise Sevmash. After the repair and modernization of Admiral Nakhimov is completed, the ship will go into service with the Pacific fleet.

Following the Admiral Nakhimov, two other ships of the 1144 project, the Admiral Ushakov and the Admiral Lazarev, will pass through the modernization program. As it is expected, outdated analogue electronic equipment will be replaced on rocket cruisers and computer equipment will be installed. On the ships will also be installed new weapons. According to the agency’s source in the United Shipbuilding Corporation, the work on the dismantling of equipment and armaments has already begun on Admiral Nakhimov.

Earlier, Sevmash announced that the modernization of the missile cruisers would be of the type Peter the Great, the only ship of the Orlan project in service with the Russian Navy and performing combat missions as part of the Northern Fleet. Funds for the repair and modernization of "Admiral Nakhimov" have already been allocated, but the exact amount is still unknown. Earlier, the director of Sevmash, Nikolay Kalistratov, stated that the funds allocated for the repair of the cruiser were not enough.

In July, 2010, the Russian Navy’s main headquarters announced that the Orlan rocket cruisers would return to the fleet's combat squadron in the next ten years. "Admiral Nakhimov" was built on the 1144.2 project at the shipyard of the Baltic Shipyard in 1988, and until 1992, it was named Kalinin. In total, four ships were built for the 1144 project. "Admiral Lazarev" and "Admiral Ushakov" were taken to the reserve in 2002 and 2005, respectively. "Admiral Nakhimov" is listed in the Northern Fleet.

Displacement "Admiral Nakhimov" is 26,2 thousand tons. The cruiser is capable of speeds up to 32 nodes. The ship is armed with anti-ship missiles of the Granit complex, Vodopad-NK anti-submarine missiles, Smerch-3 and Udav-1 jet bombs, the AK-130 artillery, the anti-aircraft missile complex Fort and the anti-aircraft anti-aircraft gun. Osa-ma. " The ship also has torpedo tubes of 533 millimeter caliber. The air group includes three Ka-27PL helicopters.

There was a call from the president to the people. MODERNIZE. Now everyone who can upgrade ....... For a little bit. And they cannot develop scientific thought. And it turns out, so to speak, a modern hybrid. Stop being Great. After the Union, the gut is thin. winked

It seems that there is no idea for what purposes we need a fleet and which ships. A huge discrepancy in the types of ships .... if only it would go, the bad principle is to bring the number of pennants to such a number. Shake a bunch of dough without a well-thought-out development concept. Perhaps there is no time left and they are trying to put everything in order
