Yandex will make “its own Crimea” for both Russia and Ukraine. The search engine decided to please users from both countries. Those who go to the Russian site, “Yandex. Maps "will show the Crimea as part of Russia. A visitor to the Ukrainian domain "Yandex" will see the peninsula is still Ukrainian.
The official blog of the search engine notes that the services are designed to fit the world of users who have the right to choose - switch the domain and choose one or another picture of the world.
This is a big mistake of Yandex, says the owner of the Live Internet statistics service, German Klimenko.
“First of all, this is a Russian company. Theoretically, it would have to implement the decisions that are made in our state. However, Yandex is also an international company with an office presence in Ukraine. I would never write anything in their place. Because I read this release, and I became very sad. "And yours and ours" - this does not happen. It seems to me that Yandex will get in trouble here and trouble in there. Although the position of Yandex itself is more or less clear. If Ukrainians come in, they see one
historyif Russians come in, they see a different story. But the port of registry at Yandex, nevertheless, is still Russia. He could quietly do something, not tell anyone. And so it will be more like a minus than a plus. ”
Unlike Yandex, the Mail.ru map service unambiguously included the Crimea into Russia. The decision of Yandex is more compromise, but such actions of Mail.ru can cause a harsh reaction in Kiev, says independent expert Mikhail Gurevich.
“Ukraine is a strategic market for Yandex.” And he simply cannot refuse him. On the other hand, we should not forget the main business - that is, about the main Russian platform, where Yandex has an overwhelming advantage in the market. Here we must consider both sides. And in this case, probably, this is the most correct solution, which once again confronts us with this dilemma, that geo-limitation can sometimes turn into frontier on the one hand, and on the other hand allow us to solve such problems. I think that Mail.Ru may be underpaid for a certain amount of audience in Ukraine, and in the future, some kind of blocking. Because according to Ukrainian laws, Crimea continues to remain a part of Ukraine, and accordingly, the state authorities of Ukraine, like the state bodies of Russia, have the ability to impose restrictions on companies that do not comply with the country's legislation. I would not rule out such a decision by the Ukrainian authorities. ”
It should be noted that Abkhazia and South Ossetia are depicted as separate countries on the Yandex maps, while Kosovo is included in the borders of Serbia.
Earlier, the staff of the National Geographic magazine's editorial office announced that they would include Crimea in their maps on Russia as soon as all official procedures were completed.
In the Russian office of Google Business FM said that the company has not yet decided how to mark the peninsula on the map.
