Restless Baltic. The gallows on the memorials and the "replacement" of the "Bronze Soldier"
Gentlemen from “Memento” society (“Memory”), who call themselves “victims of the Soviet occupation”, made a proposal: in the square on Tõnismägi (central part of Tallinn) to place a memorial to the “victims of communism” on the site of the “Bronze Soldier” "He is a memorial to the" victims of the Soviet occupation. " With this proposal of the “victim” (forgive me, but no matter how confused with the victims of artificial interruption of pregnancy ...) they turned to the head of the Estonian Ministry of Culture, Ms. Urve Tiidus, presenting at once her own version of the architectural-sculptural composition. According to the “Memento” plan, the monument should consist of several stone pillars, on which the names of Estonians “tortured by communists” will be inscribed. According to preliminary calculations of the Pamyat activists, the communists “tortured” just as many Estonians as many surnames can be placed on 55 pillars of different heights ... Will the whole population of the Estonian SSR in the period from 1940 to 1991 be in this case, or nevertheless they will decide not to mention someone, it’s not completely clear ...
Urve Tiidus, as should the average Estonian minister (especially the Minister of Estonian culture ...), supported the project. Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves also supported him.
Only here, Ilves, who, one of the first after the hacker attacks mentioned in connection with the transfer of the Bronze Soldier monument in 2007, began to stick the camera on his laptop, suggested that the monument to the “victims of communism” should not be installed on Tõnismägi, but where somewhere far away - for example, in Hirve Park. Apparently, Ilves, who was taught by bitter experience, believes that in Hirva a new monument can still be seen by fewer residents and guests of Tallinn than on Tõnismägi. In general, the position of a typical representative of the modern Baltic authorities, once taken as a soft spot, is as follows: a monument to “victims of the Soviet occupation” is certainly necessary, but it would be better to quieter somehow ... But it will not quieten anymore.
Perhaps Mr Ilves recalls what fairy tales the Estonian authorities told in 2007 when they transferred the Bronze Soldier from the center of Tallinn. For those who have forgotten, it is worth recalling. The tales were of the following nature: the monument somehow blocks passengers from accessing the bus stop in the center of Tallinn, and therefore the Bronze Soldier needs to be moved, and the Red Army soldiers buried in Tõnismägi should be reburied in the cemetery. After the authorities began to dismantle the Tallinn Liberators Memorial, the city plunged into the abyss of riots, in which more than a hundred and fifty people were injured, one person died. 1200 demonstrators who oppose the dismantling of the memorial were arrested. Many were sentenced to real terms. Everything is just "purely democratic" ...
So, if one “Bronze soldier” was hindering people's access to the public transport stop in the central part of Tallinn, then it is even scary to think how “the victims of the Soviet occupation” will wade to this stop after creating a new memorial - try it, slip through the 55 pillars ...
On the fact of the possible installation of the memorial to the victims of communism, expressed themselves in the Tallinn mayor’s office. Deputy Mayor of the Estonian capital, Mr. Kylvart noted that the final decision on the construction of a new monument on the site of the Bronze Soldier has not yet been made, and all the talk around the new facility is a provocation. Interesting position: that is, the very possible construction of a memorial by the “victims of the Soviet occupation” on the site of the “remote” monument to the liberators of Tallinn, you know, not a provocation, but talking about it is a provocation ...
They continue their struggle with the monuments to the Soviet soldiers not only in Estonia, but also in the neighboring Latvia. In Riga, the other day young people staged their “battle” with historyby installing a wooden gallows on the monument to the liberators of Riga. At the same time, they presented their “feat” in the form of a photo report on the draugiem.lv website in one of the user profiles, the author of which uses the Nazi paraphernalia as an integral part of his nickname.
It is noteworthy that the gallows gathered directly on the memorial from the wooden planks that these gentlemen brought to the place of "performance". The assembly time is clearly not a few seconds, as can be seen from the presented frames.
It should be noted that we are talking about the very memorial, about which the representatives of the Latvian Ministry of Justice some time ago had matured a plan for dismantling.
I wonder if there is a final chord in this Baltic hysteria? Is that red (in relation to the Baltic states the word “red” sounds somehow especially) the transition beyond which will contribute to knocking dope out of the heads of those people who cannot live in peace without historical horror stories about “bloody hand of gebni” about “vampires commies "and" tortured by the Soviet occupiers of freedom-loving balts "? What else do the Nazi thugs undertake so that tomorrow on the gallows built by them (and Estonian pillars from Memento) fluttering their portraits in the wind first, and then, if it doesn’t come, then ... (just write it down) - as a reminder of the Nuremberg process. And to remind, apparently, it is necessary, otherwise the “memory” of them is so short ...
