Gorbachev writes a letter to Putin and Obama about the Ukrainian events
This time, Mikhail Sergeyevich, who, it must be admitted, had not been heard for a long time, decided to show the world that he was extremely worried about the situation that is today in Ukraine and around Ukraine. And he decided to show it in the epistolary version, writing a letter to two current presidents at once - Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama, by publishing it on his website. The letter, of course, quickly replicated, and it can be assumed that the Russian and American leaders familiarized themselves with the work of Mikhail Gorbachev.
Here are some separate quotes from the letter.
In the final part of the letter, the ex-Secretary General and the ex-president (as they say, in one bottle) call on Putin and Obama to influence the Ukrainian situation in order to prevent the escalation of the conflict.
Full text of the letter.
Now, if you did not know who wrote this letter, then it would be appropriate to say that its author is a person who is ready to do everything to lead Ukraine away from the very real threat of civil war, chaos and strife, unlawfulness and sliding into the depths of the Middle Ages. . But, turning its attention to the authorship of the appeal to Putin and Obama, such thoughts about the nature of the message and the “status” of its author instantly disappear. After all, the appeal to the presidents is written by the same person, whose activity more than two and a half decades ago and launched the mechanism of fatal civil confrontations. Confrontations, in which the blood and chaos are more important than the public interests and well-being of entire nations. It is Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev who today can be called the politician who, with his, say, specific leadership style, led the world not only to a “parade of sovereignties”, but also to the fragmentation of states, effectively destroying the existing system of political and military balances. And what is happening in Ukraine today is just another “domino” of dominoes, to which the process launched, with the connivance (at least with the connivance) of the former Soviet leader, has reached. These knuckles today fall one after another, for which special external efforts are no longer required; the main thing is to push at the right time and in the right place, which is demonstrated by the forces driving Ukraine into chaos, its scenario painfully reminiscent of Libyan, Egyptian or Syrian chaos. The opponents of the legitimate authorities in the Ukrainian case do not have those arsenals that, for example, Syrian militants have, but even here the “friends of Ukraine” can help ... God forbid!
Of course, it can be assumed that, turning to Putin and Obama, Gorbachev really cares "for world peace." Perhaps, in his old age, a person really realized that further dances on the bones of the world order formed after the Second World War are destructive for the entire existing civilization. Suppose that this is so, but only in this case, Mikhail Sergeyevich clearly did not have the courage to make an important subdivision in his letter - a text that the current presidents did not repeat his fatal mistakes in management, did not allow themselves to be courageous and adherent. chaos and contention.
But in this case there is a feeling of something unnatural. The reason is that the Gorbachev appeal is one of his addressees identifying Barack Obama - a man who has long been in the system, engaged in planting chaos in different parts of the world. In this regard, the appeal to Obama with the words that he influenced the Ukrainian reality in order to resolve the conflict is more like either a bitter and not entirely appropriate irony, or the naivety of an elderly person.
Appeal to Vladimir Putin also has a shade of a certain oddity. Putin, even if he is a man of the year according to some publications, but what can the Russian president allow himself to do in this situation — to introduce Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine in the form of the Ukrainian police, or what? Yes, such a crazy scenario will lead to a new round of aggression in Ukraine.
By and large, Putin and Obama, like a number of other world leaders, including through UN instruments, could try to influence the Ukrainian situation - “force the parties to peace” at the diplomatic or diplomatic level, for example, arranging “round tables "For the negotiation process. But isn’t it all too far in Ukraine? Has it been too much lately that those who wish outside Ukraine itself continue to escalate the Ukrainian conflict? Which parties today are “forcing the world”, if we are talking about “coercion.” The so-called leaders of the so-called opposition (Klitschko, Yatsenyuk and Tyagnibok) today do not themselves imagine how one can control the insane crowd, which, with its "edge", exposes well-organized and trained combat groups. They (talking about "opposition leaders") sit at the negotiating table with Yanukovych, but the sense of such negotiations is zero. The crowd does not perceive them as leaders, they have led the crowd, and now it is settling the scores with the “red” and with the “white” and with the “right” and the “left”. Domino knuckle is in a fall stage, which hardly anyone can stop with one word “Stop!”
The problem, as has already been said, is that there are forces that today are simply not profitable to see Ukraine calm and prosperous. Will these forces openly engage in dialogue with the opposite side in any negotiation process? With high probability we can say that they will not. This is simply not part of their plan for dismembering Ukraine, contention and bringing the country to a political deadlock.
In this regard, Gorbachev's letter to Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama is more like the option of reminding himself as the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. For what this award was awarded to Mikhail Sergeyevich, we all remember very well. Is the sight on the second “Nobel Prize”? .. Peacemaker ...
