Venezuelan army swore allegiance to Vice President Maduro
The command of the armed forces of Venezuela took the oath of office to the vice-president of the country, Nicolas Maduro, whom Hugo Chavez called his successor. According to Reuters, Maduro will act as president until the election of a new head of state.
Previously it was assumed that in the event of Chavez’s death, he would be temporarily replaced by the speaker of the National Assembly. This post has been held since January by the leader of the ruling social party, Diosdad Cabello. As for Maduro, he was predicted for the role of presidential candidate from the socialists.
Meanwhile, the Venezolana de Television Channel reported that a second American diplomat had been expelled from Venezuela. In addition to David Del Monaco, who, according to Maduro, led activities aimed at “destabilizing the country”, Dablin Costal was ordered to leave the state in 24 hours.
Recall that the death of Hugo Chávez was announced less than two hours ago. The president of Venezuela, who held this post for 14 years, died of cancer. Since the last (fourth) operation to remove a malignant tumor, Chavez has not shown in public, which has generated a lot of rumors about his state of health. The authorities have assured that the president, despite his illness, continues to govern the country. He cannot speak, but this does not prevent him from fulfilling his duties and giving orders. As evidence, Chavez’s photos were published in a hospital bed, in which he looked quite cheerful. Despite this, representatives of the opposition accused the authorities of concealing the truth about the health of the president and demanded that he be shown to the people.
