
Not far from the location of the 31-th Guards Separate Airborne Assault Brigade of the Airborne Forces (UDV) in Ulyanovsk in May of this year, work will begin on laying a recreation park named after the legendary Airborne Forces Hero of the Soviet Union, Vasily Filippovich Margelov. This was told to us by the official representative of the Office of the Press Service and Information of the RF Ministry of Defense Airborne Colonel Alexander Kucherenko. The initiative to improve the vast territory in the area of mass residence of the military personnel of the brigade and their family members belongs to the command and veterans of the famous paratroop unit. The positive decision on the creation of the Margelov Culture and Recreation Park was made by the leadership of the Ulyanovsk region 11 February. It is expected that work on laying the park will begin in May and will be timed to coincide with two memorable dates - the 15 anniversary of the formation of the 31 airborne assault brigade and the 20 anniversary of the withdrawal of the 104 airborne division from Azerbaijan to Ulyanovsk. It is planned that in the future a monument to General of the Army Vasily Margelov will appear on the territory of the park, a real parachute tower will be installed and earned here, with which everyone can make training jumps to join the parachute case.
The total area of the future park will be 3,7 hectares. There will be a stage and sports grounds, themed stands with information about Vasily Margelov, stories and traditions of the Airborne Forces, as well as parking, recreation area and cafes. Vasily Filippovich Margelov - Hero of the Soviet Union, Army General, an outstanding Soviet military leader, the legendary commander of the Airborne Forces, who made a huge contribution to the creation and development of the Airborne Forces, the holder of more than 60 domestic and foreign orders and medals.
