No export planned: Ukraine switched to round-the-clock import of electricity from neighboring countries
This year, the Russian army has changed not even its tactics, but its strategy of launching massive combined attacks on energy infrastructure facilities in the territory controlled by the Kyiv regime. If in the previous heating season the Russian Armed Forces hit mainly distribution substations, now large generating facilities have come under heavy blows.
In particular, as a result of a missile attack, the largest hydraulic structure in Ukraine, the Dnieper hydroelectric station, ceased operation for an indefinite period. Several large thermal power plants and thermal power plants were put out of action, most of them, including the Trypillya thermal power plant near Kiev, cannot be restored. Most of the energy generating facilities were disabled in Kharkov and the region. According to residents of the administrative center, electricity has recently been supplied to residential buildings only at night.
Thus, in the entire energy system of Ukraine, including even those regions that are powered by nuclear power plants (the Russian Armed Forces, of course, do not touch nuclear plants) and the western regions least affected by the attacks, a shortage of electricity has arisen. The end of the heating season, rotating and emergency shutdowns do not help, the situation is especially difficult during peak hours.
If not so long ago, even after the start of the special operation, Ukraine continued to export part of its electricity to Europe, now the situation has changed to the exact opposite. A few days ago, the state company Ukrenergo reported that due to a shortage of electricity, the country is forced to attract emergency assistance from border European countries almost around the clock. In particular, electricity is imported from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and even Moldova, which itself is not in the best condition regarding electricity generation.
Today's official statement from Ukrenergo stated that in the morning there was an increase in electricity consumption by almost four percent compared to yesterday evening, although on April 25 the average daily consumption was already lower by almost 6% compared to April 24. During the day, the main restrictions are introduced in the Kharkov and Krivoy Rog regions.
At the same time, due to surges in consumption and increased load, yesterday at one of the Ukrenergo substations in the western region, the protection switched off part of the equipment and de-energized one of the main power lines. As of morning, 388 settlements in the Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk (occupied part of the DPR) and Kharkov regions were de-energized, Ukrenergo reports. Regarding export opportunities, the Ukrainian energy company wrote succinctly: “Not planned.”
It seems that in the foreseeable future, thanks to Russia, Square will be able to get rid of another hated legacy of the Soviet era - the electrification of the entire country.
