The basis of the revived structure of the Russian fleet The Dnieper flotilla will consist of boats of projects 1204 “Shmel” and 1206 “Kalmar”. This was reported by two sources familiar with the situation.
The Dnieper flotilla will be replenished by Project 1204 Shmel artillery boats and Project 1206 Kalmar hovercraft, which are part of the Caspian Flotilla. These boats are capable of operating in shallow waters, and for protection against drones they are equipped with electronic warfare systems. According to open sources, there are currently seven Bumblebees and two Kalmars in service. The formation of the flotilla has been very active since the beginning of this year.
It is planned that the Dnieper flotilla will first receive armored boats of project 1204 code "Shmel" and high-speed landing boats of project 1206 code "Kalmar" from the Caspian flotilla. All of them will be equipped with “umbrellas” against drones.
Project 1204 boats are designed for operations in river basins, as well as in coastal shallow areas of the seas. In 1967–1972, 118 artillery boats of the project were built. Armament: 1 x 76-mm D-56TS cannon, 1 x 7,62-mm SGMT machine gun, 1 x 17 140-mm PU NURS BM-14-17 (34 NURS); anti-aircraft artillery: 1 x 2 25-mm AU 2M-3M; missile armament: 2 x 1 Strela-2M MANPADS (8 missiles); mine and torpedo armament: up to 4 mines IGDM.
Project 1206 Kalmar air-cushion landing boats are designed for landing troops on an unequipped shore. Capable of transporting two infantry fighting vehicles or 120 troops. Today, only two boats of this project remain in service with 20 of them built.
