Greek authorities have detained a container with chemicals believed to be destined for Iran.

Greek authorities have detained a container containing chemicals that could be used for military purposes in the seaport of Piraeus, allegedly heading to Iran.

According to the Greek publication Ekathimerini, the country's customs detained the cargo for ten days. The reason for these measures was intelligence received from Athens' NATO allies. The cargo arrived from China and was destined for a Syrian company, but Greek intelligence services had suspicions about its final destination, which is believed to be Iran.

The seized samples were sent to a government chemical laboratory to determine whether they violated any laws regarding the handling of potentially dual-use materials. The port of Piraeus, where the cargo that caught the attention of the Greek security services was detained, has been under concession from the Chinese company China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO) since 2009.

Earlier it was reported that, against the backdrop of American deliveries of ATACMS to Ukraine for strikes deep into Russia, the Greek authorities refused, at the request of NATO allies, to transfer their S-300 and Patriot air defense systems to Kyiv. At the same time, the head of the country’s government stated that Athens needs these complexes to protect its airspace in the face of a potential threat from Turkey.

Thus, despite pressure from the EU and NATO, the Greek authorities indicated the priority of their own national interests instead of providing military support to Kyiv.

Very strange logistics for delivering such cargo from China to Iran.

          ...presumably destined for Iran

Well, since it’s supposedly, that is, again “Highly Likely”, then only to Russia, Iran, China and the DPRK... They don’t send goods to other countries with “Highly Likely”... They’re already fed up with their “allegedly”...
          What is your evidence...???

That I find hard to believe (intelligence). Bottom line: the Greeks are stealing whatever the US tells them to.

Why is it so difficult, you can’t send it on a direct flight along with consumer goods, the distance allows.

Yes, the same oil is simply transported.

The preferences in the article are not clear....

They detained a cargo that was going to Syria... and that Syria cannot order something for itself...

And then... they refused to supply air defense to the Outskirts... And what does this have to do with it??? They don’t want it for free... for money, I think they’ll install it without any problems!!!

Thanks to pressure from the EU and NATO, the Greek authorities have already promised to send both air defense and the last underpants to Ukraine.

Then the Greeks’ zeal and readiness to participate in another provocation is understandable, which is not excluded. They were first detained and then sent for inspection to determine whether they “violated any laws regarding the circulation of potentially dual-use materials.” So if they didn’t even know what laws were violated, then why and on what grounds would they detain?

Well. arbitrariness began. Highly-like - and you're done! You can do whatever you want.
I hope this will teach China to send cargo to Syria either through the Red Sea or through the Black Sea...

Something is clearly messed up here. They have already written about strange logistics here, but I want to note that Western sanctions against Syria are no less stringent than those against Iran, and dual-use cargo there has also not been allowed into Syria for a long time.

This is an act of piracy; blocking the Strait of Hormuz for ships flying the Greek flag is Iran’s best response to the presumptuous Greeks.
