PSZ "Yantar" intensified work on the completion of the oceanographic research vessel "Almaz" for GUGI MO

The Baltic shipyard "Yantar" has intensified work on the oceanographic research vessel "Almaz" of Project 22010. This is stated in the press service of the enterprise.

According to the report, work on the construction of the Almaz vessel is gaining intensity, with up to 200 people working on the vessel every day. Almost all divisions of the plant and the electrical installation enterprise of JSC SPO Arktika are involved, and the task has been set to bring Almaz to pre-mooring work by the end of the year. As explained at the plant, a large delay in the construction of the vessel occurred due to import substitution; all replacements had to be coordinated with the design bureau that designed the vessel.

The Almaz vessel is the second vessel of Project 22010 and the first production vessel after the lead vessel Yantar. Project 22010 vessels are intended for the Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research of the Ministry of Defense. The Almaz OIS was laid down in 2016 and launched at the end of October 2019. The displacement of the Almaz will be 5200 tons, the hull length will be 108,1 meters, and the width will be 17,2 meters. Cruising range - 8000 miles, speed - 15 knots, endurance - 60 days, crew - 60 people.

The Almaz is being built with some differences from the lead vessel of the series; it has lost its helipad, but it will accommodate two more deep-sea vehicles. As previously reported, the uncrewed autonomous vehicles of the Rus and Consul class will be joined by the deep-sea vehicles Mir-1 and Mir-2, which were previously located on the scientific vessel Akademik Mstislav Keldysh.

The main purpose of the Project 22010 vessel is to explore the world's oceans, including the bottom at great depths. It can also be used for rescue purposes; the equipment installed on it will allow searching for sunken objects on the sea and ocean floor.

An important matter, now it is urgently necessary to know where and how other people’s pipes and cables are located, where there are tracking stations for submarines and surface vessels, and other similar stuffing of the sea, as well as to monitor the condition and safety of their similar systems. Select promising locations for installing new ones.

Even since last year, they began to actively complete its construction. They took it out of the backwater and placed it near the factory wall for further completion, but it was so sad to look at the unfinished ship standing there. This is a boomerang of sanctions and the ability to replace equipment subject to sanctions. They are still struggling with the special vessel “Voevoda”; the issue of delivery is still up in the air.

I wonder why the ship's speed is 15 knots? I understand that research into the matter is unhurried, but if it is also a lifesaver, then I would like to have at least 25.
