The Bundeswehr is participating in the NATO exercise Quadriga 2024, which is testing the ability to transfer troops to the eastern flanks of the alliance
More than 2024 thousand German troops are taking part in the Quadriga 12 series of NATO military exercises. During the events, the transfer of ground forces to NATO’s eastern flank is being practiced. The main purpose of these exercises is to test the military logistics capabilities of the alliance countries and the ability to counter the threat from Russia.
The head of the exercise department of the German Ground Forces Command, Colonel Dirk Hamann, in a comment to the official Youtube of the Bundeswehr, noted that during Quadriga 2024, first of all, the ability to ensure the transfer of troops throughout the territory of the alliance to the place intended for deployment is being tested. In particular, military units are moving from the northern regions of Norway to Poland, Lithuania, Hungary and Romania. Thus, the entire eastern flank of NATO is covered from north to south. The process of these NATO exercises is designed for a two-year period.
These large-scale exercises were planned for 2021 with the participation of Germany's NATO allies. The German command considers such events as one of the elements aimed at deterring possible attacks from Russia. After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, NATO considers this one of its priorities.
The German officer also noted that during recent exercises in the Arctic Circle, the Bundeswehr demonstrated its ability to transport troops over strategic distances in difficult weather and climate conditions.
