Quantum processors as future universal keys to instantly solving any cipher
16
Quantum computers will certainly be a new breakthrough era in the field of computing. Such devices are already available to scientists in several countries around the world.
Russia also has its own quantum processor. What the computer of the future is already capable of, said a researcher at the Lebedev Physical Institute laboratory. Lebedev RAS Ilya Semerikov.
According to the scientist, the quantum processor can easily cope with decomposing a number into prime factors, which is a complex algorithmic task that is labor-intensive even for the most powerful modern PCs.
As the scientist put it, this is important, since this is the principle on which most modern encryption algorithms work. Therefore, in the future, quantum computers will be able to instantly solve any cipher.
The algorithm for the above operation has already been invented at the Russian Quantum Center. In turn, Semerikov launched it on the quantum processor of the Lebedev Physical Institute.
As a result, during the test, the latter factored the number 1591 into prime factors.
It is worth noting that modern ciphers use numbers of 2 thousand characters in length. 1591 is only four characters. However, a start has already been made in our country towards the creation of a universal key, which in the future will be able to solve any cipher.
